In essence what you should be doing through the American Pageant part of the assignment is trying to use your Amsco knowledge as a scaffolding device. That is, Amsco is an easier way for you get the basics. American Pageant includes deeper concepts that are not found in Amsco. Amsco will help you understand the deeper concepts found in American Pageant. If you find there is content brought up in the American Pageant packets that is not covered in the Amsco reading, read/skim through those parts of American Pageant. Some of you may choose to read/skim through American Pageant chapters before attempting the American Pageant packets. Also keep in mind that you will not be turning in the American Pageant packet work unless otherwise indicated. The packets are there to check for understanding, to make sure you understand the content/concepts. Keep in mind, unless otherwise noted, about half the value of your Tests will come in the form of matching (Amsco) and the other half will come in the form of multiple-choice (American Pageant). Some students may decide to forgo using the packets, and instead just read the American Pageant chapters as the course moves forward. That’s fine. Other students may decide to read the American Pageant chapters and take notes as we move forward; that’s fine as well. The key is that you learn the content, understand the concepts, and be able to analyze what things happened and why. These latter points will become much more central as essays are incorporated into the course. 29 In-class: Quiz; discuss content HW: Read Amsco p. 65-69 and review American Pageant packets/content for Ch. 6, 7, and 8 Have a safe weekend. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------September 4 In-class: Quiz; discuss content HW: Read Amsco p. 77-83 and review American Pageant packets/content for Ch. 6, 7, and 8 5 No School Have a safe weekend. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------9 In-class: Quiz; discuss content HW: Study Amsco (p. 60-83) and American Pageant (Ch. 6, 7, 8) 11 In-class: TEST on Amsco (p. 60-83) and American Pageant (Ch. 6, 7, 8) HW: Read Amsco p. 83-88 and 96-97 13 In-class: Quiz; discuss content HW: Read Amsco p. 97 (from “Drafting”) – 103 (stop at “Hamilton”) Have a safe weekend. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------17 In-class: Quiz; discuss content HW: Study Amsco (p. 83-88 and 96-103) and American Pageant (Ch. 9) 19 In-class: TEST on Amsco (p. 83-88 and 96-103) and American Pageant (Ch. 9) HW: Read Amsco p. 103-110 Have a safe weekend. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------23 In-class: Quiz; In-class essay: “Analyze the ways in which British imperial policies between 1763 and 1776 intensified colonials’ resistance to British rule and their commitment to republican values.” (2009 FRQ #2); student answers and the reading were then discussed HW: Read Amsco p. 110-113 and 121-125 (stop at “Jefferson re-elected”) 25 In-class: Quiz; Students created a quick mini-answer to the following essay prompt “Analyze the origins and development of slavery in Britain’s North American colonies in the period 1607-1776.” (2011 FRQ #2); development of slavery essay (1607-1776); student answers and the reading were then discussed HW: Read Amsco p. 125-133 27 In-class: Quiz; discuss reading HW: Study Amsco p. 103-133 and American Pageant p.
