[Name of Parish] JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Custodian Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Department/Location: [Name of Parish/Location] Primary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor, Parish Administrator, Business Manager, School Principal or other assigned manager, is responsible for providing janitorial services including light maintenance in a parish, school or other facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Support the Church’s spiritual and pastoral mission Develop a cleaning schedule to assure the Church or school is clean and maintained in an orderly fashion Perform general custodial duties to include cleaning and light maintenance of the parish or school facilities Assist grounds keeper on an “as needed” basis to keep and maintain the yard appearance Perform scheduled monthly, semi-annual, or annual janitorial duties, ie, floor waxing, painting, window washing, carpet cleaning, etc. as directed and in accordance with the parish custodial and maintenance schedule Provide set-up and cleaning of facilities for all activities and events as directed Maintain a supply of cleaning supplies and equipment; properly account for materials and equipment Maintain security of buildings, equipment, and tools Comply with safety regulations as required; maintain a safe working environment Perform other duties as assigned. Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift a minimum of 45 lbs. as required in a normal custodial and maintenance environment Required Activities: Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and climbing ladders Basic Qualifications: Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners and the general public Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must at all times; ability to travel locally as required; weekend and overtime work may be required Proficiency in computer technology Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance Be able to read directions and label safety warnings. Must be safety-conscious A thorough knowledge of the use of the tools and equipment associated with grounds keeping, custodial work and general maintenance to include basic knowledge of irrigation systems. Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history check Possess a valid Arizona driver’s license Education and Experience: High school graduate or equivalent education 1 years’ experience in a commercial or private maintenance, custodial, or similar position Other/Preferred Skills: Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) May 2014
