In parallel with the mission, the chapter aimed to encourage and recognize intellectual achievement and promote the highest ethical standards by inducting members that met the criteria of the society and were upright and moral in their character. The chapter also urged members to strive for continued academic success after being initiated. Secondly, the chapter intended to stimulate critical inquiry to advance pharmacy by providing service opportunities like bake sales for the members that were supportive of the mission of Rho Chi and aspired to contribute to the development of intellectual leaders by providing information about residency opportunities after graduation. Finally, the chapter wished to foster collaboration by encouraging communication via email by the creation of a Listserv on the school’s email. The Rho Chi Society – Gamma Iota Chapter Campbell University Annual Chapter Report Financial/ Budgeting: The Rho Chi Society of Campbell University was able to fundraise by having two bake sales and a jeans day. The bake sales are run by the members that bring in baked goods to sell. The jeans day is held on a Wednesday, when everyone who wears jeans pays $2.00 to the organization that is holding the jeans day. Some of this money was deposited into our account and some of it was sent to Reach Out and Read which is an organization dedicated to increasing childhood literacy in underserved areas. Initiation Function: The annual Rho Chi initiation of new members took place on March 13, 2015 at the Alumni Room in Marshbanks Dining Hall on Campbell University’s campus. Student as well as alumni and faculty attended the ceremony to celebrate the induction of fifteen new members. The speaker for this year’s initiation ceremony was Dr. Michael Adams, PharmD, PhD. Dr. Adams is the current Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences as well as the Acting Vice President of Health Programs. The chapter’s advisor Dr. Andrew Muzyk, PharmD lead the induction of new members with the help of the 2014-2015 student officers. Evaluation/Reflection: As a whole the activities sponsored by the Campbell University Chapter of Rho Chi during the 2014-2015 academic year have been extremely successful and effective. The tutoring office hours held by Rho Chi members are well attended and sought out by students in all academic years, and have become what Rho Chi is known for at Campbell. In the future we can increase attendance at tutoring sessions even more by encouraging participation by more members as well as advertising our office hours better to students across program years. Another way to further improve the tutoring services offered by Rho Chi is to hold a retreat for experienced and new tutors to discuss their experiences and provide guidance for challenges they may face when tutoring fellow students. Our most successful event this year was the Top 100 review session we held for P1 students, which was very well received. We were able to provide pizza to students and create an interactive enjoyable study environment for P1 students as they prepared for this important exam. It was also a great opportunity to expose P1 students to the members of Rho Chi and our organization in general. Rho Chi members have discussed the potential of holding additional large group review sessions like this one to help facility learning. Some potential opportunities include holding review sessions for P3s prior to the top 300 exam, as well as review sessions for final pharmacology and therapeutics exams. The Rho Chi Society – Gamma Iota Chapter Campbell University Annual Chapter Report While we had numerous successful events, there is always room for improvement and potential for growth. Several barriers to our success included lack of member involvement in Rho Chi’s activities, as which is perpetuated by the absence of P4 students from campus. One possible solution is to hold regular Rho Chi meetings to help facility continued involvement from those members who are on campus, as well as a sense of comradery among members. Holding regularly meetings throughout the semester will help build momentum and prevent the development of apathy towards Rho Chi and its purpose. College of Pharmacy Events [nonacademic, non-patient outreach] Top 100 Exam Review Rho Chi hosted a Top 100 Exam Jeopardy Review. Each year, P1’s are required to take an exam concerning the top 100 most prescribed drugs in the US. This review was “Jeopardy style”, where students were divided into teams. The teams were then allowed to select a category of Brand/Generic, dosage forms, strengths, etc. each correlating with respective points. The team with the most points was awarded a prize. Pizza was also provided for everyone. This event 2 years allowed Rho Chi members to edify our predecessor s by creating an event that would allow them to have fun while learning material for their exam. The Top 100 6 members review was made into a game that allowed for students to have teams, which differed from last year. This allowed them to synergize with one another. The atmosphere was much more playful than a usual review session. More interaction was beneficial. 48 students N/A – Student affairs donated the funding for the event The Rho Chi Society – Gamma Iota Chapter Campbell University Annual Chapter Report Patient Outreach Events/ Community Service Operation Inasmuch Each year Campbell University hosts an event that raises health awareness utilizing all the health programs.
