It will begin at 9:00 am and end at 4:30 pm. Presenters: Virginia Wiley and Christine McArdelll Restorative practice is based on a philosophy of community healing. It focuses on offender accountability, problem solving and creating a voice for victims and offenders. The process is collaborative and inclusive and usually involves the participation of victims, offenders and the community affected by an offence, in finding solutions that seek to repair harm done and promote community harmony. A Restorative Practices Group Conferencing model takes a school offence and turns it into a “teachable moment”. The result is that children/youth are educated as to the impact their actions have had on others, they are held accountable for their actions in a meaningful and constructive way, and they are given the opportunity to make amends to their victims. This model is a nationally developed training program, endorsed by the RCMP. This three day training program may lead to certification of facilitators.
