State Meet Preview 100M Dash The big three are Jen Christianson (12.13) , Molly O’Dea (12.17-indoor 55M champ) and Shanteana Samuels (12.22) . I’ve always been a big fan of Molly but I fear Jen is just too tough. She beat Molly for last year’s title. Sixth Jen Jaboin (12.48-11th in ’09) has stepped up her game of late and is giving Sharon hopes for a placement. But 7th seeded Ezra Banks has her sights on that spot or higher. She’s not used to being shut out in big meets. Kudos to Attleboro’s Briana Robitaille (12th-12.66). the only freshman to make finals. 1 Jen Christian 2 Molly O'Dea 3 Samuels Shanteana 4 Tayla Allen 5 Jasmine Bien-Aime 6 Jen Jaboin 7 Ezra Banks SR Central SR Hingham JR Monument High Sc JR Westwood SR Cambridge R&L SR Sharon SR Newton South 12.13 12.17 12.22 12.39 12.46 12.48 12.56 SO Arlington SR Doherty JR Boston Latin SO Holyoke JR South Hadlety SO Mansfield FR Oxford JR Andover SO NO Attleboro 24.92 25.07 25.09 25.13 25.25 25.50 25.52 25.58 X26.19 200M 1 Rebecca Robinson 2 Hannah Janeczak 3 Emma Rice 4 Selena Yates 5 Brianna Tabin 6 Kayla Comer 7 Emily Dawidczyk 8 Eve Bishop 14 Samantha Kroll Plan on a four-way race with soph Rebecca Robinson (24.92) the favorite. Hannah Janeczak (25.07), Emma Rice (25.09) and Selena Yates (25.13) aren’t out of the picture though. Hannah was champion in ’09 in 24.80. Selena was second at 25.19 while Rebecca was 5th (25.83) so these girls all know each other. Mansfield’s Kayla Comer (SO-6th-25.50) is a real talent and is a good bet to medal. She’s chased by one of three frosh in the state finals 200, Emily Dawidczyk (25.52) of Oxford. North Attleboro sop Samantha Kroll (14th-26.19) made finals on the super qualifier. 400M Most of the top runners come from the indoor 600M race. Franklin’s Kendall Knous (2nd57.18) has her sights set on an outdoor state championship. She already holds the 600M title from indoors when she shocked the field. This time they’re ready for her including top-seed Hannah O’Flynn (56.84) who was 5th in ‘09. They won’t be alone as the field is deep. Mimi Narbone , Titi Fagade and Natalia Paine who was third in ’09 will breath down their necks. Emily Broyles is seeded 14th . Leanne Tucker (2:14.09) and Andrea Keklak (2:14.89) dueled 1-2 indoors with Tucker the winner. They will have plenty of company at the front. Margo Gillis (2:15.61) was the ’09 champion in 2:14.13. Marika Crowe (2:16.69) is a bona-fide burner. Add in fastclosing Emily Grotz and you have an exciting race. Laura Williamson moves all the way from a 600M runner-up indoors to the mile – so her speed isn’t a question. Alex Geise (Franklin) is within striking distance of the podium. Cassie Olson is seeded in the same spot she finished indoors. Her 11:02 last week was a huge PR and sets her up to challenge the magical 11:00 barrier. It may take that to place. Deanna Latham , last year’s runner-up to Meghan Ferreira is close to a slam dunk. If she wins it won’t have the storybook aura of her indoor championship. There, she was running poorly but found one inspired race to upset Nicole Genard and Vanessa Clerveaux. Now, its Genard’s turn to write a comeback after her disastrous finals last week. She is seeded 18th at 15.76 after posting a 14.93 in semis. Genard is lucky just to be here. Clerveaux wasn’t as lucky. She ran 14.87 in semis but was a DNF in finals. Back to this race. Genard and Cecily Boyce will push Latham. Liz Monty is rounding out a solid career and is the best of the rest. Both Christy Deininger and Kristen McDonagh are fighting for a spot in the finals. Despite an injury-plagued season, Deininger ran a time at Hocks (15.28) that could place. Christy was 5th in ’09. This will be the first time in ten years that they haven’t gone to New Englands. It was a good streak that would end sometime – only one runner is back from that team. Their large school frosh-soph meet record performance shows they aim to get back there soon.
