T
Presidents Message
12/1/05
Heart felt thanks to all those that participated and helped out on our Brits and Battleship Car Show. It was a
tremendous success. The weather was beautiful and so were all the cars. We had many more people from out of
town who promise to be back next year with even more friends. There were about (40) people at Fat Tony’s Friday
night to help get the show off to a good start. Gail & I hosted (5) Healey families from the Charlotte AHC club that we
still belong to. It was great seeing old friends again. The show committee did a great job planning and carrying out
the plan. We should be able to present the Battleship with a check for near $1000.
I have been waiting for the weather to cool off before I tackle the job of repairing my overdrive, but now it is
too cold. Do you think I am procrastinating?
Gail & I missed the November Club meeting, but I understand Paul Buckner did a fine job presiding. We now
have a new slate of officers for 2006, who, I am sure, will provide you with an exciting year of car fun.
We will not meet in December, because it is normally a very busy month for everyone. Our next meeting will
be our annual kick off party, which will be held at the Fox & Hound (back of Mayfair shopping center) on January 14.
Susan and Tom Roberson, our new Activities Directors, will give us more detail info. The February regular meeting
will be on Feb 16 at the Downtown Deli in the Cotton Exchange (parking in the rear or on Front St in the front). March
meeting will be back at McDaniel’s Farm Creamery.
I hope all of you enjoy your Holiday Season, and I will see you next year if not sooner.

MINUTES OF BMCCF NOVEMBER 17, 2005 AT MCDANIELS FARMS
Paul Buckner called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. 27 members and visitors were Present.
A MOTION was made by Dave and seconded by Cookie to accept the SECRETARY’S
MINUTES of the previous meeting as published. PASSED.
OLD BUSINESS
Brits at the Battleship Car Show
Paul reported on our very successful Brits at The Battleship Show (11/05/05). We expected 85 cars. One hundred
and twenty eight (128) showed up. Evelyn handled the registrations, while Bill went home to handle additional paperwork.
Travis, John and Terri managed to find spaces for all the cars in their assigned classes. We ran out of materials and Paul
now has trophies which he will mail. Will ask our members to pick them up at a meeting.
Paul would like members who have suggestions for improvement or changes to the show,
to e-mail them to him. We expect the show to provide a donation of $900 approximately to the Battleship. Terri made a
suggestion that we set aside seed money funds for the next show.
After some discussion it was felt that it was not necessary.
The new sign cost less than had been appropriated at the last meeting. This expenditure will come from our
general checking account funds.
We have 7 new members. Five from the car show and 2 renewals.
TREASURER’S REPORT
This report will be published separately.

Brits at the Battleship 2005
Saturday Morning, November 5, about 7:30 AM.
The sun was up, the weather forecast was good and we had
78 cars pre-registered for the annual BMCCF Battleship Car
Show. Members were bustling around setting up registration
areas and making last minute touches to the show field. We
all expected to have a good day but probably not much
different than previous years. Yet….just in case…. we had 100
registration packets ready and that would be more than
enough since we never got close to that many cars before.
HA!!!
The entrants started rolling in at around 9 AM and they didn’t stop
coming till after noon. In total we hosted 128 cars and the
registration team had to hustle like one armed paper hangers to
assemble the extra packet materials. They should be congratulated for the monumental effort. Our show is now in it’s
eighth year and on the whole, has continued to grow. This year in particular we had very good advertising and a nice
article in “Southern Living” helped also. We have acquired a reputation for hosting a nice end of the year event in a
premier location along the riverfront. Now we have to make sure that each subsequent show is as good as, or better,
than the previous year in order to maintain our new found notoriety.
As you can see from the photo on the left, we had a lot of Healys in
attendance. Thanks to Pres Bill Massey who made sure all of his Healy
buddies showed up. He and Gail even turned their home into a Healy
motel for a couple of days. Usually, MGBs predominate at a British car
show and we saw some really nice ones but the Healys beat them out in
terms of sheer numbers.
This year we saw a nice contingent of both classic Minis and their new
MINI Cooper cousins. Several Lotuses showed up as well as a few more
exotic marques. There were Land Rovers, Porsches, American muscle,
TRs and a host of other great cars.
All in all, beautiful weather, lots of spectators, food vendors, a plethora of
giveaways and lost of happy people made for a really great day at the
Battleship.

FIRST LOVE
BY TOM ROBERSON
IF YOU ARE CAR CONSCIOUS AT ALL, YOU CAN PROBABLY REMEMBER WHEN YOU FIRST FELL IN LOVE WITH ONE
PARTICULAR AUTOMOBILE. OR MAYBE WHEN IT HIT YOU THAT CARS IN GENERAL WOULD BECOME AN ONGOING
PASSION. I CAN. I EVEN REMEMBER THE EXACT PLACE; THE GAS STATION ON THE CORNER OF WADE AVENUE AND
RIDGE ROAD, TWO MILES FROM MY CHILDHOOD HOME IN RALEIGH. I WAS FOUTEEN AND IT WAS EARLY SUMMER
OF 1963.
I HAD BIKED UP THERE WITH MY FRIEND JERRY DOLINER TO USE THE STATION’S FREE AIR PUMP (WE HAD
DISCOVERED THAT REGULAR TIRE MAINTENANCE MADE PEDDLING A LOT EASIER). I WAS WAITING ON JERRY TO
FINISH FILLING HIS TUBES TO OUR
PREDETERMINED

THIS WAS SUCH A COOL CAR AND THE
OLD GUY,PROBABLY 19 OR 20, WITH A
BEARD STUBBLE, DOUBLE CLUTCHING TO A
DOOR. THIS CAR WAS THE NEATIST WHITE,
GROUND SPORTS CAR I HAD EVER SEEN. I
CONCRETE AND RAN OVER TO TAKE A
“HEH, WAIT ON ME!”
DRIVER WAS EQUALLY COOL, AN

CLOSER LOOK WITH JERRY YELLING
THE DRIVER, BECOMING COOLER BY THE
SECOND, SWITCHED THE KEY OFF,
THREW HIS CAP ONTO THE PASSENGER SEAT AND JUMPED OVER THE ELBOW CUT OUT; HE DIDN’T EVEN USE THE
DOOR. HOW COOL IS THAT? HE WALKED PAST ME WITHOUT EVEN A GLANCE, STRODE INTO THE STATION AND
STARTED TALKING ABOUT CARBURETORS. HE COULD TALK ABOUT CARBURETORS!
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK, TO GLARE, STARE AND SNIFF. I COULD SMELL LEATHER AND
SOME SORT OF OIL. IT WAS THE BEST SMELL IN THE WORLD: I WAS HOOKED. JUST ONE AND A HALF MORE YEARS
AND I WOULD BE DRIVING AND I HAD MADE UP MY MIND AT THAT MOMENT THAT I WOULD BE DRIVING
SOMETHING JUST AS COOL AS THIS. AND YOU KNOW, I DID. AND I STILL AM.
