PATH’s Community Resource Seminars – 2015. We want to answer your questions about our local system
of social services -- register today for our ½ day (4 hour) training! The cost is $35/individual, plus $25 (optional
and special seminar rate) for the McLean/DeWitt/Livingston County PATH Directory or $20 for the McLean
County only Directory. Both go hand-in-hand with the seminar content.

HOW FRESH IS YOUR PATH DIRECTORY? If you currently own a PATH directory, check your “freshness
date” at the bottom right-hand corner. Is it over a year old? Make sure you have the very latest information to
make the right referrals for your clients. Resources are constantly changing. If you do not own PATH’s
Directory and you are working with people in nearly any capacity, you need one! Cost is $30 per directory for
McLean County only information, $35 per directory for McLean, DeWitt & Livingston Counties combined.

Come to the Toastmasters Voices for Service Open House!
You may have heard about Toastmasters before - now is the time to see the fun in action.
Our Open House will be Tuesday September 1 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Chestnut Health Systems, 1003
Martin Luther King Dr, Bloomington, IL. We have exciting speakers and food is provided. All are welcome to
learn about our fun Voices for Service club and the Toastmasters organization.
We have a diverse group of members who are looking for people to share the excitement. The club is an
excellent and cost-effective way to learn and practice speaking and leadership skills; the skills we use daily at
work and at home. We meet twice per month on the first and third Tuesdays from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. After
checking in at reception look for the white and blue Toastmasters signs.

REGISTRATION OPEN - WITH MY GIRLS EMPOWERMENT INSTITUTE
Have a goal that you’re ready to set into motion? Want to connect with other women who are doing the
same? Save the date and join us for With My Girls Empowerment Institute where you and your support team
plan for a better future – together!
Registration is now open! This one-day empowerment institute will be held Saturday, September 19. All
proceeds will benefit YWCA McLean County. Take advantage of early bird registration prices of $20 for
students and $45 for non-students. Early bird registration is open until September 1, after which tickets will cost

Support Group - Beginning September 30th, INtegRIty Counseling will be offering an anger management
support group for adult women in the community. This 8 week group session will help women work through
and make improvement on their journey to manage anger and frustration. This group seeks to provide a safe
and supportive environment for members to share experiences and process solutions together. Nelicia Butler,
graduate intern, will be facilitating the group on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. (9-30, 10-7, 10-14, 10-21,
10-28, 11-4, 11-11, and 11-18) INtegRIty Counseling is located in the Old St. Joseph Hospital Building at 502

University of Illinois Extension Nutrition & Wellness Educator, Jenna Smith, has multiple programs coming
up in Livingston and McLean Counties!
Pressure Canner Testing & Canning Tomato Demonstration- September 5 from 9-11 a.m. The Nutrition &
Wellness team will have a booth at the Downtown Bloomington Association Farmers Market on September 5
and will be demonstrating how to can tomatoes! While you are checking out the demonstration, bring your
pressure canner lid and have it tested for free!
Fresh Fare: An Apple a Day!- The fall harvest season is the perfect time to enjoy apples. Learn about
different varieties of apples, how to use them, and how to store them. This program will be presented in
Evenglow Inn’s beautiful dining room! Tastings of the dishes she prepares will be served to your table. An
Apple a Day will be held September 9 at Evenglow Inn, 1303 E. Indiana Ave., Pontiac from 6-7:00 p.m. A $5
donation is suggested. You can register for this program by calling Evenglow at (815) 842-9040.
Canning Tomatoes- Enjoy the goodness of your garden all year by canning your summer bounty. Learn how
to safely can tomatoes and tomato products using a boiling water bath canner. In addition to multiple recipes
and a variety of resources, you’ll also take home what you preserve. Please bring six pint size canning jars
with screw bands. We’ll provide the lids and everything else! This program will be held at Heartland Community
College in the Normal Readiness Center Room 1203 on September 10 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. There is a fee of

Pressure Canning- Take the pressure out of pressure canning. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to
safely can low-acid vegetables and meats, such as green beans, corn, stock or soups. In addition to multiple
recipes and a variety of resources, you’ll also take home what you preserve. Please bring six pint size canning
jars with screw bands. We’ll supply the lids and everything else! If you have a dial gauge pressure canner, you
are welcome to bring the lid to get the gauge tested, a task that should be done every year. This program will
be held at Heartland Community College in the Normal Readiness Center Room 1203 on September 11 from

YWCA Playground ribbon cutting ceremony
Join us on Friday, September 4 at 3 p.m. for a ribbon cutting ceremony for our newly-constructed playground,

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION - Join us as we celebrate and learn about different cultures

Retaining Local Talent: Challenges and Solutions
September 17, 2015, 3:30-5pm Heartland Community College CCB 1406
The McLean County Community Compact’s Semi-Annual meeting features reflections on retaining local talent
from Bloomington’s Comprehensive Plan presented by Vasudha Pinnamaraju of the McLean County Regional
Planning Commission. Her presentation is followed by a panel of high school students, college students, and
young professionals weighing in on the factors that motivate them to stay in McLean County or leave the area,
facilitated by Laura O’Donnell of Unit 5.

Happenings with the Bloomington Public Library:
Wednesday, August 26 - Drop-In Tech Time at Western Avenue Community Center
Stop in to Western Avenue Community Center, 600 N Western Avenue, between 2 & 4pm, and a librarian will
be on hand to assist with online job applications, email set-up, social media, guiding new users through
internet basics, and downloading the library’s digital materials. If you have your own tablet, eReader,
smartphone, or laptop, bring it with you. And if you can’t make it to WACC, you can schedule an individual
appointment with a librarian by calling 828-6093 or by accessing the form under “Services for You” on the
library’s website.
Thursday, August 27 - Teen Thursdays
Teens are encouraged to join us on the fourth Thursday of each month to share and discuss our favorite
books, movies, games, YouTube videos, memes, etc. We’ll meet in the teenZone from 5-6pm.
Saturday, September 5 - Craft Circle: Organize It with Attitude
Do you have a messy room? Do you need help organizing? Would a few good ideas freshen your awesome
room? Kids in grades 3-5 will meet from 10am-noon in the Story Room to create a few easy projects and learn
some great organizational tips. All supplies are included. Attendees should arrive wearing clothes that can get
dirty and with a non-glass, lidded drink.
Wednesday, September 9 – Homecoming Hairstyles
At 5pm in the Community Room, teens can join stylists from Hairmasters Institute of Cosmetology, Inc. of
Bloomington, to show off some fun and easy up-dos that can be recreated for Homecoming.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Become a PATH Hotline Volunteer: Adult volunteers are needed to answer phones on the 24-hour hotline.
Volunteering your time on the hotline offers a rewarding experience and a great opportunity to give back to
your community. A complete training program and professional back-up is provided. Our training program
teaches you everything you need to know, including communication techniques and community resources. The
next 8-week training class session begins September 3rd. If interested, the volunteer application is available

BE AN ADVOCATE FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT SURVIVORS - Be there for someone in crisis, either directly or
indirectly, by providing support through Stepping Stones, YWCA’s sexual assault program. 40 hours of free
training is required for all volunteers. Training is Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 8 - October 1 from
6 - 9 p.m. and Saturdays, September 12 and October 3 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
After completing the 40-hour training, volunteers are qualified to help in many different Stepping Stones areas:
· Taking hotline calls (requires carrying a pager during assigned on-call shift)
· Providing prevention education on anti-bullying, sexual violence, healthy relationships, privilege and
oppressions, and more in McLean County to schools, businesses, or groups
· Provide support at public events
· Data entry and other office work
· Translating materials from English to Spanish and interpreting during counseling and advocacy sessions

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR READING TO END RACISM
Reading to End Racism is a racial justice program that uses trained volunteers to read to children in the
classroom and, through books and personal stories, stimulate an insightful conversation about discrimination.
Opening this dialogue with students and teachers empowers individuals to work to eliminate racism in their
lives, schools, and communities.
A two-hour training will be required for all Reading to End Racism volunteers.

Homes of Hope is running for a cause and we want you to join us! Help us support adults that have
intellectual disabilities right here in Bloomington/Normal.
Homes of Hope is hosting a 5K Fun Run on Saturday, September 5th at 10am! Enjoy a refreshing morning run
at Tipton Park before your Labor Day festivities begin. Pre-registration is through August 20th for $25 and to
guarantee your shirt. After that date it is $30 & t-shirt while supplies last. Enjoy an Avanti's sandwich after the
race!

REGISTER YOUR TEAM FOR STEPPING STONES TRIVIA NIGHT! - The second annual Trivia Night
fundraiser will be Friday, November 6. Teams of up to 6 members are eligible to compete for cash prizes! The
night will include a 50/50 raffle, cash bar, and all you can eat pizza at the Park Regency Hotel & Conference
Center. All proceeds will benefit YWCA McLean County Stepping Stones, which provides free, confidential
services to sexual assault survivors and their families. The cost for a table of up to 6 team members is $200,

- Adapted P.E. Teacher, full-time: Instruct junior/senior high school students with severe emotional,
behavioral, and/or developmental disabilities in a program of adapted physical education. Bachelor’s
degree in physical education, special education, or related field and Professional Educator License with the
State of Illinois with approval to teach Physical Education required. Previous experience with an adapted
physical education program and/or working with adolescents with developmental, learning or behavioral
disabilities preferred.
- Child Welfare Specialist, full-time: Provide case management services to children and families served by
The Baby Fold’s foster care programs. B.S. in social work or related field required. Foundations training,
CWEL, and relevant experience preferred. Valid driver’s license required for transporting clients
throughout Central Illinois.
- Family Therapist, full-time: Unique opportunity to provide high-quality trauma and attachment therapy for
families formed through adoption and subsidized guardianship. MSW or related master’s degree, 2 years of
clinical experience, and eligibility for licensure required. LCPC/LCSW preferred. Three-year training
program includes Theraplay, EMDR, and education in attachment and adoption issues. Valid driver’s
license required for extensive travel throughout Central Illinois.
