Fahrenheit 451 Claim, Data, Warrant Essay
Symbolism is a very important part of Ray Bradbury’s writing. We have spent a great deal of
time discussing certain objects, people, etc and what they mean IN the novel and what they mean
to the meaning of the novel as a whole.
PROMPT
Select ONE theme and discuss how Ray Bradbury conveys this message through use of 2-3
symbols in the novel.
Requirements:
 Essay must be at least TWO full-length pages
 MLA Format (size 12, Times New Roman, double spaced)
 Must be turned in online through TurnItIn.com before it’s due in class
 Your TurnItIn receipt must be stapled to the back of the essay
 Cite all of your quotes with (Bradbury #)

3. Begin organizing essay into CDW format (Students will be given a model
outline online and in hardcopy- they can begin “plugging in” their information
to organize thoughts)
HW: Outlines typed/neatly handwritten for tomorrow (use sample online: 25 pts.)
Friday 10/29 – meet in 121
1. Turnitin.com practice submission and addressing questions
2. Conferences on outlines and students working on revisions
HW: draft due on Monday (typed and worth 50 pts effort)
BOOKS DUE MONDAY – we will keep about 7 to use in class

1. Teacher mini conferences, peer review (maybe writing stations)

1. Essays due and wrap up discussion- starts with a final Writer’s Response on
Bradbury’s “message” for us (write for 10 min.)
