Book: “If You Give A Pig A Pancake” By: Laura Numeroff
Extension Activity: Piggy Pancakes
Our extension activity will be a small group cooking activity assembling
pancakes to look like a pig. Since it will still be morning hours when we cook
we will discuss how this is breakfast, the first and most important meal of
the day. Breakfast foods should be healthy and we should eat enough to fill
our tummies for a while. We will heat frozen pre-cooked pancakes in the
toaster oven following directions on the box, then we will add sliced
banana noses, strawberry slice ears and red seedless grapes for eyes then
top it off with maple syrup.
Small Group Circle Time: Today we will read the story “If you give a pig a
pancake”. This is a story about a pig who eats a pancake with sticky syrup
which makes her think of all kinds of other things she wants to do around
the house, we will follow her silly adventures and create our own pancakes
using frozen pancakes, a toaster oven, bananas, strawberries, grapes and
maple syrup. Yum!

Book: “Peanut Butter and Jelly” By: Nadine Bernard Westcott
Extension Activity: Sandwich Painting.
Today we will create our own peanut butter and jelly sandwich by fingerpainting with brown and purple or red on a bread shaped piece of
construction paper. We can sing our song we learned to help us remember
the steps to completing a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Small Group Circle Time: Today we will read the story “Peanut Butter and
Jelly”. Today’s focus is lunch. Most of us bring sandwiches for lunch and the
most popular sandwich is peanut butter and jelly. The story follows the
song and the order of how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We
need peanuts to crush, grapes to squish, 2 slices of bread, a knife and a
plate.

Book: “Pizza Please” By: Saturnino Romay
Extension Activity: English Muffin Pizzas.
Our extension activity today will be a short cooking group. We will be slicing
English muffins in half, spreading tomato sauce on our half and sprinkling
cheese on top. We will place them onto our plates and put them in the
microwave to let the cheese melt and sauce heat up a little before eating
them. Delicious!
Small Group Circle Time: Today’s focus is dinner, the last meal of the day.
Some people choose to have a pizza night. Pizza is usually round in shape
but sometimes it can be square, we call that Sicilian. Pizza is made with
dough that is shaped like a circle or a square then you add red tomato
sauce, salt, pepper, cheese and sometimes pepperoni. The story follows a
chef as he creates pizzas in a pizza shop.

Book: “Make Mine Ice Cream” By: Melvin Berger
Extension Activity: Ice and Water In the Sensory Table
Today we will play with ice cubes in water for sensory play. We can add
food dye to make the water blue in color. We will talk about what happens
to the ice when we warm it up, that is the same thing that happens to
warm ice cream; it melts!
Small Group Circle Time: Today we will be reading the story “Make Mine Ice
Cream”. Today’s focus is probably the favorite of what we eat, dessert! We
will read the story make mine ice cream; the story shows the ingredients
and steps to create ice cream. What happens if ice cream gets warm?
Where should it be stored? Which is your favorite flavor?
