2006-2007 EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CAUCUS (EDC) GRANTS ACCOUNTABILITY FORM 1. Background Information Principal Applicant’s Name: Russell Day Institutional Affiliation: Simon Fraser University Address: Department: Psychology Dept. 8888 University Drive Burnaby, B.C., V5A 1S6 e-mail: rday@sfu.ca Contact phone: 778-782-6580 Fax: 778-782-3427 Title of Project: Instructional Skills Workshop Facilitator ‘Communities’: Institutional, National, and International 2. Educational findings/outcomes What did the EDC Grant enable you to do (that perhaps you could not otherwise have done)? With the grant, we were able to consider collecting qualitative data as we could hire a Grad Student to do the initial analysis. Were there any unexpected outcomes? Surprises, delights, pitfalls... If so, describe briefly. Pitfalls. The literature around the different types of communities is confusing, making it difficult to ground the research in a clear theoretical framework. Many of our potential participants are in parts of the world that make online data collection very challenging (e.g., US Patriot Act). Delights. The members of the community were willing to be patient as we worked out the kinks and got the research on track. How did you share your findings with others? List any URLs, conference presentations etc. where you presented your findings, particularly in a peer-reviewed context. The results will be shared at the STLHE Conference in Windsor, in June 2008. The results and analysis will be posted on the ISW Network Website. 3. Budget a. What was the amount of your original award? $2500.00 b. How was it spent? It has not been spent ‘to date’. c. If you have any funds remaining, describe your plans to make use of them. Funds remaining as of May 1, 2008 will be returned to the EDC.
