Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a University Teaching
Hospital and is a main campus base for Imperial College London Faculty of
Medicine.
The hospital serves the populations of Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith &
Fulham as well as parts of Westminster and Wandsworth. It is an acute hospital with
all the major department specialties, and several tertiary units. It is a national centre
for the treatment of HIV disease, and has recently been awarded Foundation Trust
status.
South Kensington and Chelsea Mental Health Centre is part of Central and North
West London Mental Health NHS Trust. Psychological Medicine is the general
hospital mental health service that provides assessment and care of patients treated at
tChelsea and Westminster Hospital.
The FY1 specialty placement of Psychiatry is based at this general hospital psychiatry
team. The Consultant (Dr J Catalán) has an interest in the psychiatry of A&E
department patients, as well as the mental health problems of people with chronic and
life-threatening conditions. The Consultant’s work is supported by 1 Specialist
Registrar, one SHO, seven Liaison Psychiatric Nurses, a Consultant Clinical
Psychologist and 5 other Clinical Psychologists.
