ACCELERATION OF GEARED SYSTEMS UNIT
TENDER SPECIFICATIONS
Unit mounted on an anodized aluminum frame with painted steel panel.
The MAE unit mainly consists of:
3 Shafts of different length and, therefore, different moment of inertia:
6 Gears:
1 Gear type 1:
Number of teeth: 90.
Moment of inertia I: 0.00427 kg·m2.
2 Gears type 2:
Number of teeth: 60.
Moment of inertia I: 0.0011kg·m2.
2 Gears type 3:
Number of teeth: 70.
Moment of inertia I: 0.00268 kg·m2.
1 Gear type 4:
Number of teeth: 80.
Moment of inertia I: 0.00336 kg·m2.
3 Pulleys:
Diameter: 0.08 m.
Moment of inertia I: 0.00016 kg·m2.
3 Masses of inertia of different diameters and, therefore, different moment of inertia.
In order to carry out some of the practices with MAE unit, 1 set of weights “B type” is required.
Manuals: This unit is supplied with the following manuals: Required services, Assembly and Installation, Starting-up, Safety, Maintenance and Practices
manual.
Dimensions: 600 x 800 x 650 mm. approx. (23.62 x 31.49 x 25.59 inches approx.). Weight: 25 Kg. approx. (55 pounds approx.).
EXERCISES AND PRACTICAL POSSIBILITIES
1.2.3.4.5.6.-
Determination of the moment of inertia of a gear system under different arrangements.
Determination of the moment of inertia of a gear system with one, two or three shafts.
Determination of the minimum mass required to accelerate a gear system with one, two or three shafts.
Comparison of the experimental and theoretical moment of inertia.
Study of the gear ratio of the shafts when different moments or force couples are applied to the system.
Determination of the acceleration of the system.
Optional:
- MAE/CAI. Computer Aided Instruction Software System:
This complete software package consists of an Instructor Software (INS/SOF) totally integrated with the Student Software (MAE/SOF). Both are
interconnected so that the teacher knows at any moment what is the theoretical and practical knowledge of the students.
INS/SOF. Classroom Management Software (Instructor Software):
The Instructor can:
- Organize Students by Classes and Groups.
- Create easily new entries or delete them.
- Create data bases with student information.
- Analyze results and make statistical comparisons.
- Generate and print reports.
- Detect student’s progress and difficulties.
...and many other facilities.
This software, working in network configuration, allows controlling all the students in the classroom.
MAE/SOF. Computer Aided Instruction Software (Student Software):
It explains how to use the unit, run the experiments and what to do at any moment.
- This software contains:
Theory: gives the student the theoretical background for a total understanding of the studied subject.
Exercises: divided by thematic areas and chapters to check out that the theory has been understood.
Guided Practices: presents several practices to be done with the unit, showing how to perform the exercises and practices.
Exams: set of questions to test the obtained knowledge.
- MAE/CAL. Computer Aided Learning Software (Results Calculation and Analysis):

MAE
ACCELERATION OF GEARED SYSTEMS UNIT
This Computer Aided Learning Software (Results Calculation and Analysis) “CAL” is a Windows based software, simple and very easy to use,
specifically developed by EDIBON.
CAL is a class assistant that helps in doing the necessary calculations to extract the right conclusions from data obtained during the experimental
practices. With a single click, CAL computes the value of all the variables involved and performs the calculations.
Also, CAL allows to plot and print the results. Within the plotting options, any variable can be represented against any other.
Available different plotting displays.
It has a wide range of information, such as constant values, unit conversion factors and integral and derivative tables.
