SOMABAT WORKSHOP Timisoara, July 4-5, 2012
TITLE: Insights into Novel Solid Materials, their Recyclability and Integration into Li Polymer
Batteries for EVs. Future research directions in this field.
The main objective of the Workshop is to discuss the emerging art and science of lighter and smaller Libattery for EVs (environmental safety and low cost). Secondary goals are to share the state-of-the-art in
BMS and R&D strategies for implementing performance models for Li- battery usage based on novel solid
materials.
Another important purpose is to share our experiences and accomplishments, to support each other, to be
open to our common concerns, and to refresh our vision of the future!
Education challenges will be oriented on shortfall of experience in these fields.
Activities will include conferences, lectures and roundtables to share knowledge and discuss the Main
Topics: Materials, BMS, Recycling, BATTERY, EVs, ICT

the state-of-the-art in battery materials and chemistries;

technical limitations;

future research directions and needs for obtaining and advanced characterization of materials and
electrodes

BMS (including State-of -Charge and State-of-Health estimation for cells chemistries and cell
balancing)

compare performance/durability/safety

develop and disseminate materials to improve public understanding of electric vehicle advantages
and teach/introduce young doctoral students in the issue

A possible answer to the question: Is global standardization desirable/necessary?
Program:

General Open Lecture (General view of Battery and EV)

Session I (Materials and integration: anode, cathode and solid polymer electrolytes and battery)

Session II (Capabilities & Recyclability: BMS, Modelling, EVs (IUG), ICT)
