Intervention Energizer Program Eat Smart Move More Community Enhancement of Infrastructure to support Walking (Insert rows as needed) Describe the evidence of effectiveness (type of evaluation, outcomes) Energizers are classroom based physical activities that help teachers integrate physical activity with academic concepts. These are short (about 10 minute) activities that classroom teachers can use to provide physical activity to children in accordance with the request from the North Carolina State Board of Education’s Healthy Active Children Policy. It provides WIC clients an opportunity to use farmer’s market summer vouchers to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. The farmers market also has festivals during the seasons, providing educational and health prevention screenings (Blood Pressure) for the public. Franklin County Eat Smart Move More The Cooperative Extension is NC Cooperative Extension Nurturing Parenting Project holding its first set of parenting classes, with EFNEP (Expanded Foods Nutrition Education Program) This curriculum is to encourage parents to increase healthy eating and physical activity in the home. Alliance for a Healthier Generation 3 Franklin County Schools have Franklin County Schools received Alliance for a Healthier Generation awards either bronze or silver levels. The lead agency is Health Department and it will publicize information about physical activities in the county and why it is important to be active 1. Quantify what you will do A. Quarterly the health department will list or link resources that are available to county residents on the health department website. The health department will detail the importance of meeting the recommended daily amount of physical activity and increasing the number of fruits and vegetables consumed daily. B. Franklin County Health Dept. will distribute 500 physical activity/fruits and vegetables guides to the public. C. Franklin County School nutrition cafeteria staff will use bulletin boards as a means of informing students on importance of fruits and vegetables in daily diets. D. Posting on the Franklin County Health Dept. website and distributing physical activity /fruits and vegetables guides will help raise public awareness of physical activity opportunities and healthy eating programs. B. It will promote the benefits of being active for a healthy life and benefits of increasing fruits and vegetables to help guard against many chronic diseases. C. Increase awareness of importance of Fruits and Vegetables in daily diets among FC students. D. Evaluation: Data on number of times websites visited and data on number of brochures distributed and number of outlets used for distribution of brochures. Number of school cafeteria’s participating in the bulletin board initiative. Number of students visiting the 2nd grade annual nutrition fair and number of participating schools. Evidence: Good nutrition is essential to good health and healthy weight. Fruits and vegetables are nutritious foods that have been shown to guard against many chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers. Curves will be asked to place flyers in each location in the county. 1. Quantify what you will do: A. Senior Center offers weekly aerobic classes and chair exercise classes. These classes are published in the Louisburg Senior Center Newsletter. B. Franklin County Health Department offer educational classes on physical activity and benefits for adults. C. Explore Curves -Silver Sneakers Program and raise awareness of program to seniors. 2.Expected outcomes: A. Adults in Franklin County will stay active and also increase physical activity levels therefore, helping seniors to maintain strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance.
