Total percentage of adults is 72% of the population approx. 43, 000 over the age of 20.


physical activities that help teachers
integrate physical activity with
academic concepts. These are short
(about 10 minute) activities that
classroom teachers can use to
provide physical activity to children in
accordance with the request from the
North Carolina State Board of
Education’s Healthy Active Children
Policy.
ESMM is a statewide movement that
promotes increased opportunities for
healthy eating and physical activity

opportunity for citizens to purchase
fresh fruits and vegetables grown
locally. It provides WIC clients an
opportunity to use farmer’s market
summer vouchers to purchase fresh
fruits and vegetables. The farmers
market also has festivals during the
seasons, providing educational and
health prevention screenings (Blood
Pressure) for the public.
Franklin County Eat Smart Move More
The Cooperative Extension is

Nurturing Parenting Project
holding its first set of parenting
classes, with EFNEP (Expanded
Foods Nutrition Education Program)
This curriculum is to encourage
parents to increase healthy eating
and physical activity in the home.

boards as a means of informing

D. FCHD and FC Schools Nutrition

annual 2nd grade nutrition fair to
promote fruits and vegetables to
all 2nd graders in Franklin
County.

Evidence:
Good nutrition is essential to good
health and healthy weight. Fruits and
vegetables are nutritious foods that
have been shown to guard against
many chronic diseases, including
cardiovascular disease, type 2
diabetes and some cancers.

Physical activity is an important
factor affecting overall health as well
as body weight. Regular physical
activity reduces the risk of heart
disease, stroke, hypertension, and
type 2 diabetes. Regular physical
activity also reduces risk for certain
cancers, strengthens bones and
muscles, and improves mental
health.
