Some organisations recruit through their Open Evenings and you are advised to attend

NB: Entry Requirements: most Technical, Engineering and Motor Vehicle apprenticeships require at least

ENGINEERING
Network Rail. 2012 programme, visit the site in December 2011 when you will be able to pre register for
information. Will start taking applications in January 2012. Apply as early as possible as they may close once
they have enough people for each location. Need to be 17 by 10th September 2012. Strict policy on drug and

Advanced Engineering Apprenticeships in Track, Signals, Electrification, and Plant & Telecommunications.
Residential first year training takes place at HMS Sultan, Gosport (Flagship training); pay around £8,400 + £1,150
when you complete the first year, increasing in the 2nd year. Entry requirements: 4 GCSE’s A* - C inc English, Maths,
Science/Engineering. Also accept either NVQ1 or 2 in a practical subject such as Electrical, Plumbing, Gas etc
instead of the Science subject. Will accept L2 Key Skills in Number, Communications and Problem Solving instead of

Generally MOD apprenticeship employing establishments start their recruitment programmes in January/February

employer; but if you can find a company to employ you as an apprentice, then they will sort everything out with your
employer. You will usually need to sit a short Maths and English test to find out your level of ability and for the more
technical subjects, you will probably have to take a ‘trade test’ specific to that type of work.

Lifetime Training Academy – apprenticeships in Fitness Instructing (also offer Care and Hospitality apprenticeships
but not yet in our area) don’t ask for specific grades but need to pass numeracy and literacy tests. If still at
school/recent school leaver need to find own employer. If young person has been NEET (not in employment, training
or education) for 12 weeks or longer then the Employment team can help you to try and find an employer. However,
