Your assignment is to write, illustrate, and design a book of literary terms. This
book is to be an authentic, one-of-a-kind version of the literary terms covered in class.
The purpose is to help prepare yourself and others as you begin to embark on your
journey as young, talented authors.
The expectations of this assignment are outlined clearly in the rubric on the
back of this page. I will assist in the final binding and lamination of the covers of each
book; however, the original design is up to you. The book must have a creative title,
be visually appealing ( if I needed to buy a book on literary terms, would I buy yours?),
and have definitions, examples., and illustrations for each literary term.
This book is designed not only as preparation of becoming better authors,
through use of these different literary techniques, but also to be used as a reference
throughout the rest of the school year, as all aspects can be used in your creative
writing. There will be many occasions when I will be referring to various terms
represented in your book, which is why I want you to prepare one to keep at your
fingertips.
I know that this is a task that will be both challenging and rewarding. It is an
opportunity to showcase your creative abilities to me and your peers. You may use
any type of media you wish to present your final product – it can be completely done
on the computer, can be a mix of computer and hand, or all hand, the design is up to.
I look forward to seeing the creativity and effort that I am sure will be put forth into
your finished products.
