Possible etiologies of ischemic heart disease will be presented and possible therapeutic approaches will be discussed. There will be a presentation of different types of dyslipidemias and methods of their treatment. Different classes of drugs will be covered, with special emphasis on their ability to increase lifespan and life quality. Drugs affecting blood. Drugs affecting peripheral vascular system. Different types of drugs affecting blood coagulation will be discussed, their therapeutic use and potential caveats of their use, including drug interactions. Drugs used in the treatment of anemia will also be covered. Possible etiologies and typical symptoms of peripheral vascular system diseases will be discussed and possible therapeutic actions of different group of drugs and methods of treatment will be presented. Midterm exam III Opioid analgesics, agonist-antagonists. Different aspects of analgesia will be discussed and opioid analgesics will be described, with special emphasis on their toxic side-effects and addictive potential. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Inflammatory processes with possible endogenous factors influencing them will be discussed. Pharmacology of NSAIDs will be covered in detail Gastrointestinal and antiemetic drugs. Drugs used in the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, such as peptic ulcers, diarrhea, constipation and nausea and vomiting will be discussed. Hormones of the pituitary and thyroid. Insulin and oral hypoglycemic drugs. Treatment of diseases associated with pituitary and thyroid gland dysfunctions will be covered, Insulin preparations and oral hypoglycemic drugs will be discussed Adrenal hormones. Estrogens and androgens. H1 antihistamines. Steroid hormone physiology will be discussed and pathological conditions affecting their production and release will be covered. Steroid hormones used in substitution therapy and in other pathological conditions will be discussed with special emphasis on the use of glucocorticosteroids in inflammation and allergic reactions. Antiparasitic drugs. Therapeutic approaches to the treatment of different type of mycoses, including those caused by Candida sp. will be discussed. Treatment of diseases caused by protozoa and helminthes will be discussed. Anticancer therapy. Immunomodulators. Therapy of different types of cancer will be covered, with special emphasis on the side effects of anticancer therapy. Nonpharmacological approaches will also be briefly discussed.
