This web resource provides the health and social service provider (“practitioner”) with current evidence-based
approaches in the application of mental health promotion concepts and principles for children and youth. It is
envisioned that these guidelines will support both the inclusion and the sustainability of mental health
promotion concepts.

Connect[ED] is a resource that addresses Internet safety for students in Grades 4-6. It is designed to help
students develop safe and healthy online behaviours, such as netiquette, security, personal privacy and
relationships (e.g., recognizing and managing cyberbullying), in the same way they would in real life
situations. It helps children apply real life behaviour to life online. Available in French and English.

program aims to improve physical and mental health as well as academic performance.

Youth Fit for Life (RTIPS)

Youth Fit For Life is a 12-week after-school physical activity program for children aged 5-12 years who are
already enrolled in some form of after-school care. The program is administered by trained after-school
counselors with little or no prior PE delivery experience for the widest potential dissemination in the
community. Youth Fit For Life meets three times per week for 45-minute sessions that include physical
resistance training and cardiovascular exercise in the form of noncompetitive activities and cooperative games.
A nutrition and health education component is provided for 5 minutes at each session, centered on a weekly
theme. Once a week for 20 minutes, there is training around interactive, behavioral life skills (such as goalsetting, recruiting social support, and positive self-talk) presented in a conversational group format.

YouThrive is a practical resource that was developed in a partnership involving Canadian Mental Health
Association, Ontario (CMHA Ontario), Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Ontario Lung Association
(OLA) and Ophea. It is for leaders in communities and schools across Ontario who work with youth aged 12 to
19. It is designed for people who want to create communities in which young people can thrive and develop
capacity to realize their own abilities, make a contribution to society and learn how to take control of their
own lives. Available in French and English.
