J Introduction to Japan Bingo P A A N Susan Tomlinson, Keizai Koho Fellow 2008 Description This activity is designed like the game of Bingo. Students will work with classmates to win by finding the answers to complete a row across, horizontally or vertically. Objectives Students will be able to: -use a variety of resources to answer questions or obtain information related to Japan’s geography and culture -discuss with classmates what they already know about Japan, adding new information Materials Needed Introduction to Japan Bingo Handout Pen or pencil Directions Each student will receive a copy of the Introduction to Japan Handout. Students will be directed to work with a partner to answer the questions on their own or to find other students in class who can correctly answer the questions. If an answer is obtained from another student, that student should initial the answer. To encourage lively interaction, students may obtain only one answer per student in the class. The first pair to get a “Bingo” (a completed row across, horizontally or vertically) wins. The rules for winning can be extended to then include other “Bingo” wins, such as fill four corners and fill your card. Work with a partner to formulate a strategy to EITHER discover the answers or find the people in class who might be able to CORRECTLY answer enough questions to score a BINGO!
