(1) Objective of the Unit
・Use the memories of the school trip to foster a positive attitude toward making presentations using simple English
to present both facts and one’s impressions.
・Have students realize the importance of acknowledging others when they speak and asking them to repeat
themselves when necessary, as well as being able to express their own ideas.
(2) Expectations
・Listen repeatedly and with interest to the AET or IUI talk about his/her culture, give feedback to show they are
paying attention, and show that they understood what they heard.
・Using approximately 3 well-constructed sentences, tell the class in easy to understand English what one
experienced during the school trip or one’s dreams for the future.
・Listen carefully to other students’ presentations, show interest, applaud and offer praise.

home country and the AET’s impression of those sites. Also, learn about Japan’s World Heritage Sites.

(7) Important Additional Notes and References to Other Subjects
・This Unit is best used immediately following the school trip or some other hands on learning experience.
・Encourage students to choose a famous place that they can easily introduce to the class.
・Prepare pictures of World Heritage Sites from Japan and the AET’s home country and help the students realize
what is special about those places.
・Prepare a worksheet that will help the students write their presentations.
・This unit can be used in conjunction with the Elementary School International Understanding Education program
when the IUI introduces the cultural heritage of their home country.
