Essay Question: What are the stages of Brown’s gradual disillusionment? List at least
two and cite the text as proof.

List the following: Protagonist, antagonist, conflict, and setting.
What is the theme? Use the two steps from WTW. Remember that theme is what the
author reveals about human nature, the conduct of society, or his own world view. Ask
yourself what changes occur in the main character, what gets resolved?
Theme is not a summary of the story, nor simply a character’s motivation.
