December 2015
Dear Families,
During the month of January, all students in grades PreK-5 will be
completing a CCPS January Mathematics Benchmark Assessment. This is an
opportunity for your child to show all that he or she has learned in math during
the first half of the school year. The assessment will include each unit that has
been taught this school year, as well as problems that will allow students to apply
what they’ve learned and explain their thinking.
Your child will spend some time reviewing concepts in class, however
reviewing at home is very important! On the back of this letter you will find a
review calendar. For each day of the calendar (Dec. 21st – Jan. 21st), there is a
question, problem, or activity for your child to do at home that will help to review
past units. Feel free to complete activities when they work best for your
family and holiday schedule, however try not to do more than two activities per
day. Please work with your child each day to review and talk about the concepts.
Encourage your child to explain to you what they know and to show their thinking
using words, numbers, and pictures. Please initial each day of the calendar as
your child completes each task. Your initials will indicate that your child not only
did the task, but that you also talked about it together and/or looked at their
work and that they did it correctly. If you have any questions, please contact
your child’s teacher.
Please return your child’s calendar to his or her teacher with all of the days
initialed on January 22nd. We hope you will enjoy letting your child show you how
much they’ve learned!
