Targeted Position Summary Job Title: Media Relations Specialist at J.C. Penney Company, Inc. Job Description: We are searching for a talented Media Relations and Corporate Affairs Specialist to support the company’s media relations activities, building and protecting the integrity of the J.C. Penney's brand. The candidate will serve as a crucial part of J.C. Penney's Media Relations team and impact outstanding relationships internally and externally in this highly visible role. Duties: Leverages multiple channels of communication and reporting to ensure internal partners and media outlets possess strong understanding of jcpenney’s businesses, culture, strategies and events. Identifies and assesses media coverage and reporting on jcpenney and presents impacts of this coverage to media relations and communications teams at-large. Initiates and maintains outstanding relationships with media partners and confirms timely and appropriate response to media inquiries via the company’s Media Hotline. Builds the jcpenney brand by maintaining excellent tools and resources in jcpenney’s online media room and markets those resources to external media partners. Assists in developing messaging and external talking points for various field and corporate partners to utilize in their communications with media outlets, customers, investors and candidates. Represents Media Relations team and jcpenney at company events on and off-site. Serves as a daily resource for internal partners, guiding them through any necessary media response amid inquiries. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. 1-2 years experience in a corporate communications role; previous experience working in corporate public relations highly preferred. Demonstrates excellent judgment and strong awareness of ramifications when delivering messaging and official company comments to media partners. Excellent writing and composition skills; shows an ability to influence multiple audiences through their written communication. Demonstrates articulate, effective verbal communication and leverages accomplished presentation skills. Possesses strong flexibility and adaptability and exceptional composure under stressful circumstances.
