2015-16 Short Dance Requirements - This chart will go into effect July 1, 2015. SHORT DANCE LIFTS STEP SEQUENCES TWIZZLES PATTERN DANCE REQUIREMENT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 1 Short Lift 1 Not Touching Circular or Midline or Diagonal 1 Set of Sequential Twizzles Two Sections of Starlight Waltz Music requirements: Short Lifts are max 6 seconds May be skated anywhere in the program except in the required not touching step sequence. JUNIOR 2:50 +/- 10 sec Both partners may cross each other’s tracing(s) and may switch from matching footwork to mirror and vice versa. The partners should remain as close together as possible, but they must not touch. The distance between the skaters should generally not be more than two arms lengths apart. Crossing the axis during the not touching step sequence and performing the not touching circular step sequence in the clockwise direction are permitted. Not Permitted Elements: Stops, pattern regressions and loops are not to be included in the step sequence. If a lift is performed it will be identified and called “no value” and the judges will ignore the element. Two twizzles skated simultaneously with up to one step in between twizzles. May be skated anywhere in the program except in the required not touching step sequence. Skated one after the other, section 1 (steps #117) followed by section 2 (steps #18-32) Waltz plus any number of the following rhythms: foxtrot, march or polka, which are described in the ISU Dance Music Rhythms Booklet 1995. Step #1 skated on the judges’ left side. Choreography Restrictions See ISU Communication 1932 for key points. Timing: The pattern dance elements must be skated in strict time to the music with the start of the first step of pattern dance element section 1 on beat 1 of a four measure musical phrase. The pattern dance elements must be skated on the waltz rhythm, in any style of waltz. The tempo of music throughout the pattern dance elements must be constant and in accordance with the required tempo of the Starlight Waltz, i.e. 58 measures of three beats or 174 beats per minute, plus or minus 3 beats per minute. The pattern must proceed in a generally constant direction and must not cross the long axis of the ice surface except once at each end of the rink (within no more than 20 meters of the barrier). Loops in either direction are permitted provided they do not cross the long axis. After the clock is started with the first movement, the couple must not remain in one place for more than 10 seconds. During the program, either up to two full stops (duration must not exceed 5 seconds each) or up to one full stop (duration must not exceed 10 seconds) are permitted. See Rule 6090 in the U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook for detailed rules for the Short Dance. Kneeling or sliding on two knees or sitting on the ice is not allowed and will be considered as a fall by the Technical Panel. Jumps of up to 1 revolution are permitted as long as they are not performed simultaneously. Illegal Elements Jumps of more than 1 revolution or jumps of 1 revolution skated at the same time by both partners. Lying on the ice This chart highlights the elements in each program. Pattern: one full circuit of the ice surface starting immediately after the mandatory stop (i.e. the partial step sequence cannot start from the beginning of the program) and finishing at the same point. Duration: any exact number of four measure musical phrases; SENIOR 2:50 +/- 10 sec Holds: hand-in-hand hold with extended arms cannot be established, and partners must remain in contact at all times, even during changes of holds and during twizzles; Not Permitted Elements: Stops, pattern retrogressions, loops and separations are not permitted in the partial step sequence. Timing: The partial step sequence must be skated in strict time to the music with the start of the first step on beat 1 of a four measure musical phrase. Loops in either direction are permitted provided they do not cross the long axis. Crossing the long axis while performing steps #10-15 in the Ravensburger Waltz is permitted. After the clock is started with the first movement, the couple must not remain in one place for more than 10 seconds. One full stop (max 10 seconds) must be included, and this stop indicates the starting point of the partial step sequence.
