Each Article is broken into Sections - Article I – Legislative Branch of Government – CONGRESS. 10 Sections. - Section 1 - Legislative Branch shall be called Congress, and consist of – House of Representatives / Senate. - Section 2 – House - House of Representatives chosen every 2nd year. - 25yrs old - Citizen for at least 7 years - Number of reps per state is determined by population (free) - at least 1 per state - 1 rep for every 30,000 people. - State authority can select for a vacancy - House shall choose Speaker - Power of Impeachment - Section 3 – Senate - 2 Senators from each state - Elected every 6 yrs - Create classes based on election yrs. - 30 yrs old - Citizen for at least 9 yrs. - VP shall be president of Senate - No vote unless divided - Power to try Impeachment - Chief Justice shall preside over hearings - Can only remove Pres from office - Section 4 – Meetings - Congress must meet at least once a year - Section 5 – Congress Rules - Majority shall be a Quorum (# needed to do job) - Each house may discipline their own - Must record (journal) proceedings - Cannot adjourn for more than 3 days while in session. - Section 6 – Privileges - Shall be paid unless breaks the law - Can only have one job at a time (civil vs. gov.) - Section 7 – Bills - Must originate in House – Senate can add to it. - Must be passed in House, Senate, then signed by Pres.
