TASKS
Before you begin, remember: All tasks should be related and build upon one another. The tasks enable students to
demonstrate they have really learned the “unwrapped” concepts and skills of the priority standards.
TASK 1 DETAILED:
Priority Standard Addressed:
RL3.2
You will read the traditional version of The 3 Little Pigs and complete a graphic
organizer, identifying the main characters, supporting characters, setting,
problem, and solution. You will then select an alternative version of The 3 Little Supporting Standard(s) Addressed:
RL3.10
Pigs to read from the list below. You will then complete another graphic
organizer, identifying the same elements from the alternative version.

TASK 2 DETAILED:
Recall the traditional story of the Three Little Pigs and the alternative version
you chose to read. Apply what you know about each of the stories to analyze
the two by comparing and contrasting them. You will use a Venn diagram to do
this.
Write two paragraphs (5 to 7 complete sentences per paragraph) comparing and
contrasting the two stories you have read. Be sure to discuss different
characters and their traits, points of view, settings, plots, problems, and
solutions. Use specific examples from the stories within your answer.

present in the selection on the “Elements of a Fairytale Chart.” Complete the
original version column on the graphic organizer, describing the fairy tale you
read.
Step 2:
Using what you know about the seven elements of a fairytale, brainstorm ideas
to create a different version of the fairy tale you have just read. Complete
the “My Fractured Version” column of the graphic organizer to gather your
