He is interested in finding a balance between technique and improvisation, betweeh the technological and the spiritual, between the heart and the mind. He spends his free time ……………….. in his present home in Amherst, Massachusetts. Terese Freedman (assistant director) is co-artistic director of Freedman/Coleman Dance Company. She was a member of the Nancy Spanier Dance Theater of Colorado and the Bill Evans Repertory Company. With Jim Coleman, she has toured nationally and internationally and received numerous choreographic commissions and awards including Choreography Fellowships from the NEA and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. She is currently on the faculty of UMass Amherst and Mount Holyoke College. Kenneth Lipitz has taught Ballet at the University of Massachusetts for the past 14 years. He is also the owner and Artistic Director of the New England Dance Conservatory in East Longmeadow. Ken has performed as a soloist with the San Francisco Ballet, the National Ballet of Canada, and the Washington National Ballet. He has performed as a principal dancer and served as an Associate Artistic Director for Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers. Ken is formerly the artistic Director of Concert Dance Company of Boston, where he performed as a principal dancer. The UMass Dance Program is a part of the Five College Dance Department which was formed for the mutual benefit of all member institutions. Each school offers its own distinctive program of dance and also collaborates with the other four as a single and uniquely rich intercampus department. The collaborative structure of the Five College Dance Department provides a large and diverse community of colleagues who share pedagogic as well as artistic perspectives. The Five College Dance Department is a nationally recognized model for excellence in dance in higher education.
