Presentation
(2 ½ - 3 pages long, singlespaced)
Content
You signed up for a portion of a textbook
chapter to present to the class on the assigned
day. Read through the entire chapter to
develop an understanding of the chapter’s
content.
In this deliverable, provide a detailed outline
of what you will be covering in your
presentation to the class.
Internet Resources for your
After you have outlined the areas you will be
presentation
covering in your presentation, find 3 Internet
sources pertaining to what you will be
(1 ½ - 2 pages long)
covering, and provide a summary of these sites
that you will be sharing with the class. You
can incorporate information from these sites
into your presentation.
Twitter tweet
Include at least one tweet about what you will
be covering in your presentation. If you want,
(Screenshot your tweet)
you can tweet more than one tweet. Each tweet
is limited to 140 characters.
Power Point for your
The actual Power Point slides that will be
individual presentation
shown when you make your presentation to the
class. (Send an electronic copy to me one week
(10-15 slides, enough for 10 - before you present)
12- minute presentation)
To save on paper you can print 6 slides to a
page and then insert this printout at the end of
the portfolio paper you will be handing in.

Deliverable #1: Individual Chapter Outline
FIRST, develop a DETAILED outline of topic(s) you have chosen, and what you will
be covering during the class presentation. This will be the document you will use to
develop your Power Point slides. Length: 2 ½ to 3 pages long, single spaced.

Intro
1. Introduce what to expect in paper.
2. Provide an overview of the symbols that will be analyzed.
3. Mention the importance of symbols to a novel.
Symbol One: Location
1. Introduce the symbol of location.
2. Explain importance of Valley of Ashes, East Egg, West Egg, New York
City, etc.
3. Analyze the purpose of location as a symbol (displays social class,
conflict between locations, similarities and differences between
characters)
Symbol Two: Weather
1. Introduce the symbol of weather.
2. Explain importance of the hot summer days, rainy visit with Daisy, and the
heat again during the drunken feud.
3. Analyze the purpose of weather as a symbol (parallel to emotions and
turn of events: heat held conflict, rain held disappointment or renewal).
Symbol Three: Colors
1. Introduce the symbol of colors.
2. Explain the importance of colors in relation to the story (emphasis on the
color of clothing, perhaps focus on scene where Daisy cries at Gatsby’s
beautiful clothes).
3. Analyze the purpose of colors as a symbol (colors of clothing help to
develop characters, at times showing personality traits not initially
displayed).
Symbol Four: Green Light
1. Introduce the symbol of the green light.
2. Explain the importance of the green light to the entire theme of the book
(American Dream).
3. Analyze the purpose of the green light (the unattainable quest that Gatsby
has allowed himself to go on for Daisy).
Conclusion
1. Briefly recap what was previously said.
2. Relate symbolism to the theme of the book.
3. Provide a strong closing.

Deliverable #2: Three Internet Resources for your
Presentation
As part of your presentation, include at least 3 Web sites that are good credible
sources for the areas you are covering in your presentation. Give a brief summary,
in a paragraph or two, and the reason why you think it’s a good source. Each
paragraph should have a minimum of 3 sentences. You can include information you
have found from these sites in your Power Point presentation. Length: 1 ½ - 2 pages
long, single spaced.

Deliverable #4: Power Point Presentation
Insert the Power Point slides you have created for your class presentation here. You
can either embed your slides into this Word document, or attach a handout of your
slides. (1 to 6 slides per page is fine, to save paper, but legible enough so I can read
them)
Slides Content (Total of 10 to 15 slides)
 Title Slide: Your name, section, chapter you will be
presenting
 Introduction Slide: Who are you? What is your major?
Why did you pick that major? Favorite hobby? What you
would like others to know about your secret talent.
 Outline Slide: Bullets of what you will be covering in your
presentation
 Content: 9 – 12 slides. Your presentation should be at
least 10-12 minutes. Estimate spending a minute per slide.
