Decided on every other Monday at 4:10 pm c. Senate email listserv: senate@lists.cbu.edu d. Discussion of 2007-2008 Senate offices i. Senate Secretary: Marly Hazen 1. Takes minutes from meetings to post to CBU website and email to fellow Senators ii. Senate Speaker Pro-Tempore: Kelly Summons 1. Attends SGA Executive Committee meetings as a representative from the SGA Senate e. Executive Committee meetings are also public, each Tuesday at 6:30pm in TC100 f. Duties of the Senate i. Drafts resolutions and recommendations 1. Format of resolution or recommendation a. Part 1: 2-3 “WHEREAS” clauses explaining why a resolution / recommendation is needed b. Part 2: the word “Therefore” c. Part 3: “BE IT RESOLVED BY THE 2007-2008 SENATE OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION OF CHRISTIAN BROTHERS UNIVERSITY THAT __(description of proposal)___” d. Part 4: “Primary Sponsor,” e. Part 5: “(name of Senator)” ii. Attend all Senate meetings (two per month unless otherwise scheduled) 1. Unexcused absences are prohibited 2. Notify Vice-President of Senate at least 24 hours before a meeting that must be missed 3. If a Senator has more than one unexcused absence, the Senator will be removed from office 4. If a Senator misses a meeting, (s)he must attend the next SGA EC meeting to appeal absence; the final judgment regarding excuse from absence is up to the EC iii. Serve as liaison between SGA and student organizations, meeting with such organizations at least once per semester iv. Each Senator must promote at least two bills per semester v. Discuss approvals for organizations’ budgets g. Discussion of Parliamentary Procedure i. Burton Bridges handed out sheets explaining Robert’s Rules of Order 2. New Business a. Motion to consider piece of legislation from Kären Brandon regarding updating SGA election policies, Burton Bridges i. Second, Kelly Summons ii. Discussion of each article of election policies from the SGA Constitution 1. Change ballot counting from closed to open 2. Remove a clause that had allowed election commissioner to let anyone to run who gives an appeal to the commissioner. Election commissioner can receive appeals only if there is no eligible candidate running for office. 3. Motion to amend SGA Constitution according to Kären Brandon’s legislation, Dan Neuhoff a.
