Great Britain EST_PROF.dbf (Estimated profile database): PROF_NUM: The profile numbers have been altered according to the following table: New profile number Profile number GB1 GB2 GB3 GB4 GB5 GB6 GB7 GB8 GB9 GB10 GB11 GB12 GB13 GB14 GB15 GB16 GB17 GB18 GB19 GB20 GB21 171 172 173 174 175 176 177 178 179 180 181 182 183 184 185 186 187 188 189 190 191 New profile number GB22 GB23 GB24 GB25 GB26 GB27 GB28 GB29 GB30 GB31 GB32 GB33 GB34 GB35 GB36 GB37 GB38 GB39 GB40 GB41 Profile number 192 193 194 195 196 197 198 199 200 201 202 203 204 205 206 207 208 209 210 211 The new numbers include an abbreviation of the country code and a number starting from 1 to 41. Hence the new profile numbers for Great Britain are GB1, GB2…..GB41. In this way it is possible to add profiles later for each country and to directly determine to which country a profile belong. COUNTRY: The abbreviation code “UK” does not match the code in the SGDBE, which is “GB”. The code is therefore changed to “GB”. Soil type name: One soil type name has been altered. That is the soil type name of profile GB12. It is altered from “Eo” (orthic Rendzina) to “E” (Rendzina). The correction is carried out because no STUs in the soil map had the soil type name “Eo”. One dominant STU had the soil type name “E”. 1 TEXT_1: (dominant surface textural class) The following profiles do not have the correct texture data in the EST_HOR (estimated horizon data base) to qualify to the required dominant surface textural class (TEXT_1). For most profiles only minor corrections are needed in the texture data (only a couple of percent). This means that other data like water retention and CEC are still reliable. For two profiles: GB6 (176) and GB20 (190) the corrections needed are too great (marked red). In these two cases the corrections are not carried out (see below). Three profiles GB17 (187), GB19 (189) and GB41 (211) (marked yellow) are given wrong dominant surface textural classes. When the calculated dominant surface textural class from the EST_HOR is used then it will be possible to link the profiles to dominant STUs (see below). Profile 173 (GB3) 175 (GB5) 176 (GB6) 181 (GB11) 182 (GB12) 187 (GB17) 189 (GB19) 190 (GB20) 191 (GB21) 193 (GB23) 194 (GB24) 196 (GB26) 199 (GB29) 201 (GB31) 211 (GB41) TEXT_1 1 1 1 3 3 4 2 1 4 2 3 3 4 3 1 Calculated TEXT_1 2 (adjusted to 1) 2 (adjusted to 1) 2 2 (adjusted to 3) 2 (adjusted to 3) 9 (keep 9) 3 (keep 3) 2 5 (adjusted to 4) 1 (adjusted to 2) 2 (adjusted to 3) 2 (adjusted to 3) 2 (adjusted to 4) 2 (adjusted to 3) 9 (keep 9) Profiles where the texture could not be adjusted: Profile GB6 (176) has the soil type Be-1, which means that the percentage of sand should be at least 65%. The total amount of sand is however only 41%. A correction of 24% in the sand fraction is considered to possibly affect other parametres as well. Therefore the correction is not made. Profile GB20 (190) has the soil type Jcg-1, which means that the percentage of sand should be at least 65%. The total amount of sand is however only 19%. A correction of 46% in the sand fraction is considered to possibly affect other parametres as well. Therefore the correction is not made. Profiles with new “dominant surface textural class”. Profile GB17 (187) that has the soil type Gmf-4 should have been classified as Gmf-9, since the surface horizon is organic (20,1 % organic matter). This correction will mean that the profile can be linked to the dominant STU 4401623 in the soil map. 2 Profile GB19 (189) that has the soil type Bef-2 should have been classified as Bef-3 according to the texture data in the EST_HOR. Since a dominant STU with the soil type Bef-2 does not excist the “TEXT_1” (dominant surface textural class) value is altered to “3” in the EST_PROF. Profile GB41 (211) that has the soil type name U-1 should have been classified as U-9 according to the content of organic matter in the surface horizon (64,8%). The value is calculated on the basis of data in EST_HOR.dbf Corrections had to be carried out in EST_HOR.dbf. in order to qualify for the originally given dominant surface textural class. The dominant surface textural class is changed because the data in EST_HOR do not support the given dominant surface textural class. Both the dominant surface textural class and the data in EST_HOR are altered in order to qualify for a “new” dominant surface textural class that can be linked to the soil map. Incorrect code for dominant surface textural class SMU and STU: There are not typed any numbers in the fields of the STUs and SMUs to which each profile can be linked. This is because in most cases there is more than one SMU/STU to which the profile can be linked. The links are instead typed in the NEW_ESTSTULK (estimated profile to STU linking table) and in the reports “EST_HOR” (below) or “linkage to the soil map”.
