It has a network of over 45 million lines covering 5000 towns with over 35 million telephone connections. To ensure better workflow management and services to the customer, BSNL has developed in house application DOTSOFT software, integrating the Commercial Activities, Telecom Billing & Accounting, FRS and Directory Enquiry as a single Window which provides different options from Registration of fresh application for a new connection to billing and commercial activities for their Landline, Mobile and Internet services. Platform: Requirement was to setup three Data Centers running Dotsoft application along with network infrastructure connecting more than 300 locations within Karnataka Circle. These Data Centers have been deployed on Dell PE-7250 Itanium Servers running Red Hat Linux ES 3.0 in Cluster mode with Oracle 9i as database. These two Servers are connected to EMC CX-300 SAN through 2GBPS Fiber Switches with Oracle 9i database residing on the SAN. For automated database back up, Dell PV-136T tape library has been deployed with Legato Networker backup software. Cash counters and Customer Service centers are connected to Data Center via RAD FCD-IP, Atrie Lan Extenders, D-Link DSL 1500G++ to Cisco Switch 3550 connected to Cisco 2811 Router. Cisco Router 2811 from all the cities is connected to Cisco Core Router 3745 via 2 Mbps E1 links. Data Center is connected to Cisco 3745 via Core Switch 4510R. Complete network is running on RIP V2 protocol. The complete architecture is segregated in Mega, Major and Minor Pops. Mega Pops (Core network) are connected through STM1, STM4, and STM16 using 12410 GSR Router. The NLD Core and Major Pops (6513 L2 Switch) is connected through 10 GE. Major pops connectivity is through 7609 Routers and 6513 Switches. Micro pops are connected through 7606 Routers and 3750 Switches. The traffic that is coming from the MicroPoPs is Internet, Business Traffic (MPLS L2 or L3 VPN), Video Conferencing, Gaming and Voice. The returning traffic is Internet, Voice, BTV, VOD, Gaming, Video Conferencing and Voice. Platform: Requirement was to setup Metro Ethernet Architecture covering 8 cities in phase I out of that 120 location within DELHI and NCR. Devices installed are Cisco 12410 GSR, 7609 & 7606 routers, Catalyst 6513, 3750 and 2950 switches. Role: As a Team leader in VSNL Broadband project since September 2004, my responsibilities involve leading a team of 5 field engineers for installation, configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco devices located in Delhi and NCR region. I am also responsible to co-coordinate with the client for new/pending locations where the devices have to be installed. Platform: The solution is implemented on Dell Power Edge 2250 for authentication with multiple Content Servers on their intranet being a mix of Compaq, IBM and Dell Servers. Central Authentication Server is hosted on Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Oracle 8i as database server and Internet Information Server as Web Server. Multiple Content Servers are hosted on Windows 2000 Server with Internet Information Server as web servers. The solution is deployed behind a firewall on their intranet for both Intranet and Internet users. Role: As a team leader my responsibilities involved: 1. Project Planning 2. Based on bandwidth study finalization of locations for placement of multiple content servers to reduce Intranet bandwidth congestion. 5. Project: Avaya Global Connect Brief: Avaya Global Connect, a leading convergence and contact center solutions company implemented eLearning solutions to enable online training to their technical support teams spread across the country. The solution was accessible both on the Intranet and Internet. Platform: The solution was implemented on IBM Server on Windows 2000, SQL Server 2000 database server and Internet Information Server as Web Server.
