BIOL 63B. +Natural History and Wildlife of the
Northwoods/Boundary Waters Canoe Area
S07
Students currently taking courses in the
Environmental Studies program have expressed
interest in a course in the area in Northern
Minnesota where wolves, moose, lynx, beaver and
numerous bird species of boreal (northern) forests
interact in one of the largest pristine wilderness
areas in the world: The Boundary Waters Canoe
Area. The instructor has intimate knowledge of this
region, having grown up in Wisconsin, gone to four
years of undergraduate Forestry School in
Northern Michigan and done a summer ecological
survey for the US Forest Service in the Boundary
Waters Canoe Area. Three earlier Eastern U.S.
courses have done well at Merritt.
Note: Course is offered only by Merritt.
S07
Web publishing used to be a difficult task that
required programming/scripting skills. Modern
software has made it easy for businesses and
individuals to create their own web pages for virtual
global presence. This course helps students to
overcome the difficulties of web publishing through
the ease of use and power of web authoring
software for individual or team-based website
projects. Course may be taught using any web
authoring program.
Note: UCN course approved by CIS discipline
group to be offered by Alameda and Merritt.
S07
Internet revolution has replaced the old business
paradigm of brick-and-mortar with the new trend of
virtual stores. To remain competitive, businesses
today require virtual presence. E-commerce
websites provide businesses the competitive
advantage to compete anywhere (globally) and at
anytime (ubiquitously). This course is the
department’s response to the growing technology
trends and market demands.
Note: UCN course approved by CIS discipline
group to be offered by Alameda and Merritt.

Also offered as Envst 63B. Not open for credit to
students who have completed or are currently enrolled in
