Modificationen Due to the constant development and improvement of our products, the equipment supplied may differ from that described in this manual. INFORS explicitly retains the right to make such deviations and modifications. Guarantee You can find the guarantee in chapter 18.2. 1. Safety considerations The TR-125, TR-150 and TL-125 benchtop shakers meets modern demands for safe and easy handling. The chances of mechanical injuries have been minimised. Nevertheless, the following basic hints are indispensable for the safety of the user and the protection of the machine. These hints, both here and in the following text, are printed in italics in conjunction with a warning symbol(a hand with a pointing finger). They are to be followed in every case. All the housings and covers of the shaker are only to be removed by personnel explicitly authorised by INFORS to do so. This is because safety-critical zones may be covered by some housing panels. The movement of the shaker table can cause injury due to the high torque when in operation. Therefore, the tray is only to be handled when at rest. The air-intake slats on the back and underside of the equipment must be kept clear and, due to the acute danger of an electrical shock, nothing is to be poked through these slits. During long absences or interruptions to operation, according to location (eg. humid laboratory or unprotected position), it is recommended to withdraw the mains power plug to avoid the risk of accidents. TR-125, TR-150 and TL-125 Benchtop Shaker Manual 2.3 2. Product description, technical data 2.1 Configuration INFORS AG Page 5 The benchtop orbital shakers TR-125 and TR-150 along the with reciprocal shakers TL-125 are particularly robust and slim-line machines due to their compact, space-saving construction. They run especially quietly at high speed and have been developed for all applications where the highest precision of shaking action is necessary. The shakers accept a tray of type E (420 x 420 mm) or type F (800 x 420 mm). With a tray of type E (420 x 420 mm), or a special universal tray type D (505 x 420 mm), the equipment can be used in combination with the incubation hood ITE to make an incubator shaker. With a larger tray of type F (800 x 420 mm) the benchtop shakers can be used with the ITF incubation hood. The Tr-125, TR150 and TL-125 units are especially suited for location in constant temperature rooms and incubation chambers. A particular application for these machines is use under conditions of changing temperature. The TR-150 benchtop orbital shaker with 50mm throw was specially developed to bridge the gap between laboratory and production so that results from large shakers in production are comprehensible in the laboratory. Scaling down is just as important as "screening", a field in which only large shakers with 50 mm throw have found application until now. Characteristics of the shaking action of the three models: TR-125 shaker with orbital motion and throw of 25mm TR-150 shaker with orbital motion and throw of 50mm TL-125 shaker with reciprocal motion with a stroke of 25 mm. 2.2 Function All the shakers have the same drive system based on electronic control of magnetic coils. The shaker platform is directly driven by alternating magnetic fields, so giving a practically silent drive based on the principle of direct transmission of force. This magnetic drive with high efficiency was especially developed by INFORS to meet the requirement for a motor with the minimum possible heat generation. The magnetic drive has no moving parts, except for the three eccenters which support and guide the shaker platform. One eccenter also provides a dynamic balance for the kinetic forces. This concept increases the life-time and reliability of the drive system. 2.3 Control A wear-free speed sensor (proximity switch) with integral tachofeedback makes for a quiet and precise shaker motion. Speed control employs modern electronic control systems. Transport, Packing, Checking the equipment 3.1 Transport INFORS AG Page 8 The benchtop shakers cannot be carried by one person alone due to their considerable weight. Before moving, the equipment must always be switched off and the mains plug withdrawn. 3.2 Packing, disposal of the packing The benchtop shakers are delivered wrapped in a polythene sheet and packaged in a cardboard carton whose sides are strengthened with wood. Inside, polystyrene pieces are used to ensure the equipment cannot move around in the carton. Polythene sheet, polystyrene pieces, cardboard carton and wood can all be separated and recycled in an ecologically sound way. However, we recommend the original packing is retained in case the unit must be returned at some time. 3.3 Unpacking and Checking the equipment When unpacking, the carton must be cut open without scratching or harming the equipment inside. Immediately on opening, check the equipment for damage. If any damage is found, this must be reported right away. Complaints made later cannot be considered. 3.4 Transport safety Special measures are not necessary for transport of these shakers. They can be moved in their original packing at any time. 4. Location 4.1 General The location chosen should take account of the following points: - Protection from mechanical damage (small trolleys, kicks etc.) - The surface on which the shaker stands must be horizontal and absolutely flat - The equipment must not be exposed to extremes of dust and dirt - The operating panel is NOT waterproof and must not be splashed with liquids. - The base on which the shaker stands must be strong and firm enough to support the weight of the shaker when stationary and minimise any vibration when the shaker is running. 5. Interfaces 5.1 Electrical Angled plug with double protection ("Europlug") 220/230 V +10%, 50 Hz 6. Mounting, Installation 6.1 Location Stand the equipment on a firm and even base. Before connecting to the mains power, ensure the voltage matches that shown on the identification plate and that the red ON/OFF toggle switch on the the right side of the front panel is turned off. TR-125, TR-150 and TL-125 Benchtop Shaker Manual 2.3 7. Starting the apparatus 7.1 Mains power INFORS AG Page 9 As long as mains power is supplied, the RPM display shows the current set-point value for shaker speed and the indicator light 1 under the right hand side of the LED display is illuminated. Warning: Before disconnecting the power supply, ensure the red ON/OFF toggle switch is turned off to prevent injury from the shaker's movement. 7.2 Operating panel and display, Graphic The operating panel is found on the right side of the front panel of the shaker. Near to the ON/OFF switch is the speed potentiometer, the speed display and two indicator lights showing the current status of the shaker mechanism (shaker mechanism ON/OFF display). - + fig. panel-tr.drw 7.2.1 Handling the panel 7.2.1.1 Pre-selection of the shaker speed set-point value The pre-selected set point value for is shown on the LED display when the shaker is stationary. The set point is changed using the potentiometer which is situated between the mains switch and the speed display. Turning it in the + direction increases the value, turning it in the - direction decreases the value. The desired shaker speed is steplessly adjustable. 7.2.1.2 Turning on the equipment The shaker is set in operation with the red ON/OFF toggle switch. This toggle switch can be found on the right side of the operating panel. It starts the machine when the switch is toggled from the position OFF to position ON . As soon as the machine is turned on, the LED speed indicator switches from the display of set point to actual value. The control indicator light 2, located under the LED display to the left, is illuminated. The shaker mechanism starts - slowly and without overshoot to run up from zero to the desired speed. All three models have an integral "damping" system to TR-125, TR-150 and TL-125 Benchtop Shaker Manual 2.3 INFORS AG Page 10 prevent irregular shaking action in the start phase of run up to operating speed. This is especially desirable when working with Petri dishes, microtitre plates and similar shallow containers. Due to the characteristics of the magnetic drive, a "humming" noise is audible when the unit is running up to speed. Warning: Under no circumstances release the tray clamping device when the unit is in operation. This locking device may only be touched when the machine has come to a complete halt to prevent injuries due to a loose tray. Also, it should be understood that when the shaker is in operation, the speed potentiometer must not be accidentally touched, This will result in the set point speed value being altered. 8. Operation If the benchtop shakers TR-125, TR-150 and TL-125 are properly set up, there is little manipulation necessary. The equipment runs at the appropriate shaker speed. During operation, the LED speed display shows the actual shaker speed. The equipment runs with no emissions except the normal operational noise. 8.1 Loading the trays The centrifugal forces generated by the moving tray are compensated by a counterweight. The counterweight must be physically prepared against a definite loading of the tray. The counterweight is made for an ideal tray loading of 9 Kg. Warning: As the shakers are made for operation against a definite weight of load inc. tray, an unladen tray should only be operated at a maximum of 200 rpm (TR-125, TR-150) or 100 strokes/min (TL-125). However, the height of the centre of gravity of the load above the tray is also important (high containers=high centre of gravity, lower containers=lower centre of gravity). The greater this distance is, the stronger the unit can vibrate. Although INFORS has optimised the "band-width" for possible loads, the following points should be observed to minimise wear on the equipment: - Always load the tray as evenly as possible to distribute the weight of the flasks over the whole area of the tray. Flasks which are exceptionally high with an extremely high centre of gravity should not be shaken at high speeds. The permissible loading should normally not be allowed to exceed or fall under the following values: Minimum weight: 5 kg (incl. weight of tray) Maximum weight: 15 kg (incl. weight of tray) Operation above or below these values (especially at low shaker speeds) does not have an acutely detrimental effect on the shaker. However, it should be avoided if possible. A consistently higher or lower loading is certainly possible, but you must first contact your local INFORS representative to obtain the necessary advice. 8.2 Shaking speed The set speed value need not be adjusted only when the shaker is stationary. During operation the actual value can be altered by adjusting the speed potentiometer (see chapter 7.2.1.1. Setting the shaker speed). TR-125, TR-150 and TL-125 Benchtop Shaker Manual 2.3 8.3 INFORS AG Page 11 Pause, temporary stopping of the equipment Halting the shaker is effected by pushing the ON/OFF toggle switch to the OFF position. The LED speed display changes from actual value to set point value, the indicator light 2 goes out and the indicator light 1 is illuminated. The shaker platform is automatically and continuously slowed to a standstill by a braking system. For a short time during this gentle braking process a "humming" noise can be heard which is a characteristic of magnetic braking. 8.4 Table installed 8.4.1 Handling the tray contents without removing the tray - Turn off the unit (ON/OFF toggle switch in position ) Wait until the equipment comes to a complete stop Manipulate the tray contents as desired Turn the unit on again (ON/OFF toggle switch to position ) Warning: The movement of the shaker table can cause injury when in motion due to the high torque. The table may only be removed and replaced when the shaker is still (mains switch turned off). 8.4.2 Removal of the tray The tray can be released by turning the handle of the locking mechanism anti-clockwise. As you lift the tray from the front, pull forward slightly to release it from the retaining brackets at the back of the shaker platform. fig. tablartr.drw Warning: The movement of the shaker table can cause injury when in motion due to the high torque. The tray can only be removed only when the shaker is stationary (ON/OFF toggle switch is OFF). 8.4.3 Installing the tray Push the back of the tray into the two retaining brackets on the rear of the shaker platform, lower the front into place and clamp it into place by turning the handle of the locking mechanism clockwise. fig. tablartr.drw TR-125, TR-150 and TL-125 Benchtop Shaker Manual 2.3 8.5 INFORS AG Page 12 Alarm condition A speed-independent automatic re-start takes care of the machine after every unexpected stoppage eg. after a power failure the unit will automatically begin to run when power is restored. A "watchdog" module informs the user that a power interruption (longer than 5 minutes) has taken place by causing the LED speed display to blink. 8.6 Safety Cut-out To guarantee the safe running of the machine, and to protect the drive system from damage, a safety cut-out has been built in. 9. Taking out of operation 9.1 Turning the equipment off The shaker is switched off using the ON/OFF toggle switch on the operating panel at the front of the machine (see chapter 8.3 Pause, temporary stopping of the equipment). 9.2 Turning off - prolonged shutdown - 9.3 Empty the tray, only empty flasks can remain. Take all the usual safety precautions (protect against dirt, dust, scratches, kicks etc.) Withdraw the mains plug. "EMERGENCY" stop If there is danger to people or the machine turn off the shaker mechanism with the ON/OFF toggle switch and/or withdraw the mains plug at once. In particular, there may be danger if unusual emissions are discovered (loud noise, smoke, strong smells excessive vibration). After an "EMERGENCY" - Take note of the following: - Eliminate the source of danger (assuming it is still a problem) - Remove the flasks from the tray If the machine need service, please contact your nearest INFORS representative. 10. Fehlersuche / Beheben von Störungen If problems arise, please read the following list and follow the instructions given: If your shaker still does not operate correctly, or the fault is not listed please contact your nearest INFORS representative. The speed display does not light and the machine does not work: This is an indication that one, or both, of the fuses have blown. - Exchange the Fuse(es) 2.5A in the electrical socket housing. The speed display lights but the shaker movement is slow: This indicates that the safety cut-out has over-ridden the control due to overheating. - Turn the machine off and check if the shaker is blocked mechanically. After a time, switch on again.
