Schoo Behavior Matrix:
Cafeteria
Characters—Narrator, Bobby, Chris, Joaquin, Abida, Cam
Narrator—Here we are in the Schoo cafeteria during ____ grade lunch. Students are getting
their food and looking for a good spot to sit. We see Bobby and Cam looking for their friends
who have found a table. They approach the group…
Cam—Hi, Joaquin. Hi Abida. What did you think about Mr. Schwaniger’s class today?
Narrator—Cam and Bobby set their trays on the table and take a seat.
Joaquin—It was fun! We were making masks. I am making a mask like the Green Lantern.
Abida—Yea, it was fun. I don’t know what kind of mask I am going to make.
Narrator—Chris walks up to the table slowly. He would like to sit down but he is not sure he
is welcome.
Chris—Hi everyone! Can I sit with you?
Bobby—NO! You need to sit somewhere else. We don’t want you at this table.
Narrator— (Turning to the audience…)Was Bobby following the Schoo rules of “Be safe”, “Be
respectful” or “Be responsible”? (ask for a student response) What should he have said instead
that would be respectful? (ask for a student response) Now let’s get back to our cafeteria scene.
Joaquin—Chris, you can sit here. Bobby is just having a bad day. He won’t bother you!
(Joaquin pulls a chair up near him at the table.)
Cam—Hi, Chris. My name is Cam. I think I have you in my English class.
Chris—Yeah, I think so. Thanks for letting me sit with you. I am new to Schoo and I don’t
know many people yet.
Narrator—The group continues to eat and talk to each other. Bobby is getting restless and
wants recess to start. She/He looks around the cafeteria and notices the supervisors are on the
other side of the cafeteria.
Bobby—(Bobby grabs a French fry off of his/her plate and throws it at another table. She/He
laughs and continues to throw fries.)
Abida—Bobby! Stop throwing fries. You are going to get in trouble plus it is not responsible
to throw fries across the lunchroom. It can get people’s clothes dirty and it makes a mess for
others.
Bobby—Okay…I just need to go outside. I wish they would call for recess to start.
Joaquin—Yeah, me too.
Narrator—The supervisors announce that it is time to go out to recess. The group stands up
to empty their trays and push in their chairs. Everyone does this but Chris. She/He leaves
his/her tray on the table and chair out as she/he follows others towards “Walk and Talk”.
Cam—Chris, you need to take your tray to the window and push in your chair before you go
outside. It is part of being responsible. Let me show you how it goes since you are new to
school.
Chris—Thanks, Cam. I didn’t know how that worked. (Chris picks up the tray and pushes in
his chair. Chris puts the paper trash in the garbage can and the dishes and silverware in the
window.)
Narrator—Well recess has started and lunch is over. Can you name the examples of being safe,
respectful and responsible in this skit? What actions in the skit were NOT safe, respectful and
responsible?
*Actions in italics should be acted out.
