Chapter 1-2
The First 5 Books of the Bible have a Title: Torah, Pentateuch,
The Law, The Five Scrolls: These books are: Genesis
(beginning), Exodus (exile), Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy
(genealogies=family trees)
Oral Tradition came before the written accounts of the stories
in the Bible that is why there are different versions of the same
story (2 stories of Creation, 2 stories of Noah’s Ark). Oral
Tradition is sharing stories by word of mouth.
Jerusalem is the home of Christianity, Judaism, Islam
(Muslim)=Abraham being called by God to believe in 1 true God
The Bible was written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.
Greek writing was special; only the educated wrote in Greek.
Many people during the time of Jesus were not very educated.
The Attributes or Traits of God are: God is eternal, God is all
powerful, God is all-knowing, God is ever present. Pg 37
God’s Promise to Noah and Us is also called a Covenant.
Divine Revelation is God revealing God’s Self to us.
Divine Inspiration is God sending the Holy Spirit to lead and
guide the human Bible authors.
Free Will is what God gives us so we are not “God-Robots”
Conscience is Jiminy Cricket on my shoulder telling me right
from wrong.
Family Tree is a genealogy (genealogies).
The Book of Genesis tells 2 different CREATION stories.
Magisterium is the official teaching office of the Roman
Catholic Church.
The Bible is separated into 2 main parts: Old Testament and
New Testament.
Bible: is the written Word of God and tells of God’s Revelation
to us and God’s relationship with God’s people.
Human Dignity=having value and worth.
There are many historical writings other than the Bible like the
Dead Sea Scrolls.
