Study of the composition of materials, their structures and properties, related energy conversions, and the use of molecular genetic information. Questions of scientific inquiry and the scientific method in cultural and historical contexts are considered. Usually offered every term. Prerequisite: completion of the University Mathematics Requirement, or concurrent enrollment in MATH-170 or MATH-211 or STAT-202. The exams will not be cumulative. If you miss an exam due to a legitimate unforeseen circumstance (e.g. extreme illness), you must provide documentation for the absence, otherwise you will receive a zero for that exam. For those with missed exams and proper documentation, the grade will be determined by the average of the remaining exams taken. NOTE: No books, bags or other personal possessions including cell phones and beepers should be on your desk during exams. A disruptive student will be dismissed from class. Private conversations during lecture will not be entertained. Cell phones, beepers must be turned off during lecture.
