SPECIAL TEACHING ACTIVITIES AND INNOVATIONS










Designed and implemented a course on forensic accounting (ACCT 490—Fraud
Examination). Assignments include short cases and internet-based research. Graduate
students complete a research paper (2003).
Designed and implemented a cohesion case, Build Your Own Business (BYOB) with
LEGO interactive learning experiences and EXCEL-based assignments for ACCT 251
Managerial Accounting, currently being used in course (2000).
Developed and implemented ACCT 503, Management Accounting, a distance education
course for Boeing engineers. Students completed 15 case analyses and made a case
presentation using PowerPoint slides. All classes were video streamed in Internet for
Boeing students to easily access. The course was maintained on the Web using WebCT
(Fall, 2000)
Co-developed BUSA 361/362 (now BUSA 365) Design and Delivery of Goods and
Services as an integrated supply chain management course including Marketing,
Operations Management, and Management Accounting. Working in cross disciplinary
teams, students complete a three-stage business plan project applying tools of course.
Lab activities include a number of interactive learning experiences including more
extensive development of LEGO activities to teach production and accounting processes.
More than 1,500 students have completed this course(1999)
Developed WebQuest assignments, where students learn about management accounting
topic as they design a web-based learning assignment (1998)
Team teaching activities with professors in marketing and logistics and production
operations management (1995-1998); included distance education offering to managers
at three Boeing plant facilities (1997)
Taught first College of Business Administration and Economics distance education
course in management accounting using interactive technologies (1997)
Developed and taught a course entitled “Integrated Business Concepts” with a team of
three business faculty; joint student teams of Engineering students and MBA students
located at NMSU and Boeing Corporation distance site facilities; course made extensive
use of online learning and satellite learning technologies to deliver course material and
facilitate cross-site, cross-functional team projects (1996, 1997)
Developed and implemented a Viewing the Wider World Course, ACCT 305G,
Accountability for Quality, including a paper based on interviewing an expert in their
desired career area (1995)
Co-developed and implemented an award-winning, innovative cohesion case and four
interactive, hands-on activities using LEGOs construction materials, currently being used
in ACCT 251, Managerial Accounting (1991)
