California State University Dominguez Hills Academic Senate Resolution EPC 06-06 Timely Adoption of Texts MSP 2/14/07 WHEREAS: It is important that textbooks and other instructional materials be adopted in a timely manner to accommodate the needs of all students, and especially of students with disabilities; be it therefore RESOLVED: That any instructor teaching a class that utilizes a textbook or instructional materials who does not submit an order by the deadline established by the bookstore lose the right to select the textbook or instructional materials for the course for the semester; and be it further RESOLVED: That the department chair or program coordinator be required to select the textbook and instructional materials for the courses that do not have these adopted by the deadline. RATIONALE: To comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), students with disabilities must have equal access to all materials needed for a class. If these are not selected in a timely manner, and a student with disabilities requires the materials, the University must pay large sums of money to have these made available on short notice, or face a lawsuit.
