The State Services Commissioner, Iain Rennie, today announced that Peter Mersi had agreed to act as Chief Executive and Secretary for Internal Affairs and Secretary of Local Government,

Department of Internal Affairs.

Mr Mersi is currently Deputy Commissioner, Business Transformation at the Department of

Inland Revenue, a position he was appointed to in March 2010.

Prior to this, Peter was Deputy Secretary, State Sector Performance at the Treasury. He has also held roles at the Department of Labour and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The current chief executive, Brendan Boyle finishes at the department today and will take up the role of Chief Executive, Ministry of Social Development on 1 October. Carolyn Risk, Deputy

Chief Executive Strategy and Governance, will act in the role until Mr Mersi begins on 17

October 2011.
