TVAR’s 2nd annual crabfeed fundraiser dinner, will be held on
Saturday, Jan. 27th, from 6–10 p.m., at the Pleasanton Senior
Center, 5353 Sunol Blvd. in Pleasanton.
This year’s crabfeed will once again have our famous 50-50 Raffle—
last year’s winner received $2300! Raffle tickets are $1 and the
more we sell, the more we will have to spend on the animals.
Contact Deborah Thompson at deborahthompson@comcast.net or
(925) 461-9910 to purchase tickets or if you are willing to sell them
ahead of the event.
Also, raffle baskets filled with goodies will be available as part of a
silent auction. If you have new gift items, perhaps you received
one or more holiday gifts that you’ll never use, donate them! We
are also need donations of large baskets to hold the raffle items.
Contact Cathy Bergren at calicocathyb@yahoo.com or (925) 9630763 to donate for this great cause.
Crabfeed dinner tickets are available through Paypal at tvar.org, or
clawsforpaws.com or by mailing a check to: P. O. Box 11143,
Pleasanton, Ca 94588. The cost of tickets purchased before Jan.
10th is $40, after which they are $45.
Contact chairperson Cindy Ferrin at (925) 828-8664 or
cferrin@pacbell.net for more information.
Fifty-five (55)
volunteers are needed the night of this event—shifts are
available from 3:30-11 p.m. Contact Cindy if you can volunteer.

Board of Director Elections
Escrip is An Easy Fundraiser
The following volunteers were elected to Tri-Valley Animal
Rescue’s 2007 Board of Directors. We thank them for their
willingness to ensure that TVAR continues to help homeless animals
in our community.
Looking for a free and easy way to help
TVAR raise funds?
Simply go to www.escrip.com, register
your grocery loyalty and/or credit cards
and
participating
businesses
will
contribute 2-5% of your purchases to
TVAR.
Escrip.com recognizes our group name as
Tri-Valley Animal Rescue, not TVAR.
NOTE that for grocery loyalty cards,
each time you make a purchase at
participating stores, you need to swipe
your card. Entering your phone number
on the touch-pad will not activate the
escrip donation.

Rabbit fosters are always needed. We will provide you with a
complete setup, including food and hay. You'll be surprised how easy
it is to care for a bunny, and they are a lot of fun too! Bunnies are
compatible with cats, as well as homes with calm dogs or senior dogs.
All we ask is that the rabbit be kept indoors.
We also need water bottles, ceramic food dishes, plastic-bottomed
cages, timothy hay, CareFRESH litter and toilet paper tubes (as toys).
All of these items can be donated at TVAR’s East County Animal
Shelter office in Dublin; please mark the items: “Rabbit Program.”
If you can help, we would sincerely appreciate it. Please call Marisa at
925-447-2130, or e-mail at bunny@aino.com

Update on TVAR Teen / Junior Program
By Nancy Metz
Please note that all Teen/Junior new volunteer orientations at
the East County Animal Shelter have been cancelled until May
2007.
Ink Jet Cartridges
Don’t throw away your empty ink jet
cartridges! Each cartridge is worth $2–4
to TVAR when recycled. Just bring your
used cartridges to the East County Animal
Shelter (ECAS) in Dublin or give them to
a TVAR volunteer.
Starting in December, Teen/Junior Program Coordinator Nancy
Metz began a 4-month jury trial commitment resulting in teen
orientations being postponed until May. Rich Metz will continue
supervising all trained and current Teen/Junior volunteers, yet we are
looking for temporary help to keep this important program going.
If you are an experienced adult dog walkers or cat socializers and
would like to help Rich with the teen program on Tuesdays or
Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m., either stop by ECAS during that time,
or call (925) 462-9679.
Once Nancy completes jury duty, she will resume scheduling
orientations with a target date May 2007. Updates will be posted in
TVAR office and on website when new volunteer orientations can be
resumed.
Vehicle Donation Program
Let TVAR and homeless animals benefit
from donation of your old car, truck, van,
trailer, RV or boat. It’s tax-deductible and
easy too.
Call All Bay Vehicle Donations, at 1877-700-4483 and ask for a free pick-up.
They handle all the paperwork. Let them
know that you want the proceeds to
benefit Tri-Valley Animal Rescue.
Jeri Behymer is our coordinator for this
program and she may be reached at
copperk97@sbcglobal.net.
Below are some other options for volunteers under 18 to help:
1) If the parent is willing to volunteer with the teen, both are
welcome to attend an adult orientation on the second Saturday or
fourth Sunday of each month, from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at East County
Animal Shelter in Dublin. Parent and teen may then visit the shelter
together to walk dogs and/or socialize cats anytime the shelter is
open 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. daily. This parent/teen volunteering may
also extend to activities such as fostering, fundraising, arts (photo,
video, clerical etc.), as long as the parent is involved. For more
information about this option, you can contact volunteer@tvar.org.
2) If you are 16 or older, you can volunteer as a dog handler at our
Saturday Adoption Days at Pleasanton's Farmers Market, which
takes place from 9:30 a.m.-1p.m. at Delucci Park on First St.,
between Angela and Neal. Contact Lisa DeFinney (650) 490-0455 or
lmdefinney@yahoo.com to get started.

Cat Medical Clinics
By Jennifer Cowen & Kathi Samec
Cat Medical Night is held nearly every Wednesday from 6–8 p.m. at
Tri-Valley SPCA, unless it is a major holiday or has a low number of
appointments scheduled. The SPCA is located directly across the
street from East County Animal Shelter.
If you would like to schedule an appointment, contact Bonnie
Edwards at bonnie.edwards@gmail.com by 9 p.m. every Tuesday.
Due to the tremendous number of cats/kittens needing medical
attention, volunteers Kathi Samec and Barbara Finn have a medical
clinic on Wednesday mornings starting a 10 a.m. The location of
this medical clinic is also at Tri-Valley SPCA, across from the East
County Animal Shelter. To make an appointment, contact Kathi
Samec by Tuesday afternoon at tvar@dukestavern.com or (925)
867-9892.
Make the Most from Your
Donation!
Do you have an item you would like to
donate but just haven’t gotten around to
it? TVAR now accepts high-priced items
to sell on eBay, with the proceeds helping
homeless animals!
Volunteer
Diana
Mittelberger
is
generously donating her time to sell items
for TVAR on eBay. Contact Diana
Mittelberger at xtboys@pacbell.net or
(925) 323-7989 if you have items that you
are willing to donate!
PetsMart Clean Team Volunteers Needed
By Desiree Streeter
At PetsMart in Dublin, we have a wonderful volunteer who cleans
the cages we use on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
Since cages are often full, we really need help on Monday,
Thursday, and Friday mornings to clean. It involves arriving at
PetsMart before or near 9 a.m. and making sure all the cats have
fresh food and water, clean towels/beds, clean litter....
Please contact Carole Leschinsky at littertoes@comcast.net or (925)
829-0728 to volunteer for this effort.

solely by volunteers dedicated to placing
homeless animals. TVAR is the only
authorized group working in the East
County Animal Shelter (ECAS) in
Dublin.
TVAR works to ensure the following
services:
 Rescuing adoptable and /or treatable
animals at risk of euthanasia from
ECAS or other shelters and placing
them in foster homes.
 Providing volunteers to work at
ECAS to interact with the public and
help with animal care.
 Offering public low-cost spay/neuter
services.
 Educating
the
public
about
spaying/neutering and responsible pet
ownership.
 Securing donations and contributions
to fund TVAR programs.
 Matching suitable, responsible new
owners with homeless animals
through adoption events.
FAST FACT
Did you know that approximately 27% of
people include pets in their wills?
"Lucky" my new cat and I are getting on famously. I adopted him
from his foster mom Danielle DeMeyer. His real personality is
coming out and he is quite the character! He loves to play and to race
up and down the hallway. His little feet sound like horse hooves
when he runs.
He's really opening up to me more now, and actually letting me rub
his belly from time to time, which he never used to do before. I think
he feels very safe and secure now.
He loves to play with his favorite toy, earplugs-on-a-string, and he
jumps and spins in the air to try to catch the string. He often wants to
sit in my lap at the computer and cuddle, and lately, rather than
sitting and sleeping down the end of the bed, he is sleeping more
near my side, so I can reach out and put my arm around him when
we nap, which is like heaven for me. He's got his own little schedule
which is very predictable, too.
He is such a great cat; I really love him and having him with me has
added so much to my life.
Have you included your companion
animal(s) in your will or made provisions
for them if you were no longer able to
care for them?
