The Lakewood High School Theatre Company is glad to welcome you as a part of its 2009-2010 season! The drama club – also known as the LHS Theatre Company – was founded in 2003 with 8 members and now boasts nearly 100 members annually making it the biggest extra curricular club at Lakewood! The LHS Theatre Company is comprised of students from all walks of life who enjoy acting, performing, art and design, or just being a member of a strong community of peers. The only requirement to be a member is a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Being a member of the drama club doesn’t mean you’re cast in every show. Instead it means that whether on stage or back stage, singing a solo or building sets, you have a strong desire to create quality theatre and be a part of something bigger than yourself. You can be a member and be a part of as many or as few shows as your schedule allows. Our annual slate of activities is described below. Take a look and see if you find something you like! And on behalf of the 2009-2010 Drama Club and Thespian Officers, welcome to the LHS Theatre Company! This is a very worthwhile fundraiser so be sure to attend with your family and friends! Sponsored and run by LHS Thespian Troupe #1697. Guest Speakers and Parties This year, the officers are working to bring drama club members two guest speakers who are in the performance and entertainment field. These workshops will be open to paid drama club members only. We also host two official parties. The first is a second semester kick off on January XX. We have fun events here at the school, enjoy pizza, and go as a group to a movie if there is one we wish to attend. Again, this is open to paid drama club members only. The party of the year is the annual Drama Club end of the year Banquet. This year, the banquet will be held on May 22, 2010. Here we honor the best work of the year, both on stage and in the technical arena. Also, we have a slide show, greet our new officers, hear from a previous Thespian of the Year Award Recipient, and see a show! More information on this year’s banquet will be forthcoming. Open to paid drama club members and their families. Thespian Troupe #1697 The International Thespian Society is an honor society made up of students who have demonstrated outstanding work in theatre. Points must be earned to receive membership. To become a member of troupe #1697, students must log 30 points, or 300 hours, of work both onstage and back stage. These points can be earned numerous ways – performing, working tech, taking a class, doing the community service activities, attending a workshop, or serving as an officer. Each year, troupe #1697 attends the state Thespian Conference in downtown Denver to attend workshops or compete for a chance at nationals or a shot at performing on the main stage. Scholarship and college auditions are also open to seniors. Membership in Thespians is a one time due of $35 paid directly to the Educational Theatre Association. Once you’re a Thespian, your membership is for life. Thespians serve as the leaders of the LHS Theatre Company and place their hands on the Thespian wall upon their graduation. Only Thespians can hold office (except for Historian), and active members receive honor cords to wear at graduation. These honors are open to active members only, as are all benefits and privileges of being a member of troupe #1697. How Much Does It Cost to Be in Drama Club Annual Dues are $25 and can be paid at any time during the year. Note the events that are open to drama club members only. When you attend an event it is free if you’ve paid your drama club dues! (Not including cast and crew fees for main stage shows or theatre tickets.) All of those dues go back to you, the members, in the form of guest speakers, awards, and parties! How do you become a member?
