Entertainment Tassie by roberts4u@westnet.com.au Hobart's Choir of High Hopes - Journeys to New Heights @ Playhouse Theatre, 106 Bathurst Street, Hobart 1 Wednesday October 5 at 3.00pm Wednesday October 5 at 6.00pm Thursday October 6 at 6.00pm A Theatrical concert featuring Hobart's Choir of high Hopes "We are all different, but we're the same. After adversity we can smile again. We are reaching out, we are reaching out." The opening quote comes from "Song For Life" written by members of the Choir over the three winter months of 2010. This song, and others like it, will feature in their next brave expedition into the world of song writing and theatre. The new project, aptly named "Journeys", will be a unique opportunity for all choir members to find expression and self-identity through singing, writing and performance. "Journeys" is a large-scale project with a three-year plan, allowing participants to look inwards as they grow, to develop new skills as they tell their stories, and then to share this with the greater community in the magical setting of the theatre stage. The Choir of High Hopes Hobart is a fantastic group of people who sing together, entertain others and have a great time along the way. Through the Choir, people coping with disadvantage in its many forms, come together to sing, make friends and support each other. Homelessness, unemployment, drug and alcohol issues, mental and physical disabilities, injustice, social isolation and poverty shape the lives of so many amongst us, and the choir has made a positive difference in each of the singer's lives, and also the lives of their family and friends. Having a place to meet up each week, to share a healthy meal, make friends and find support, is what the Choir of High Hopes offers to its members. And when we start to rehearse, our big noisy group of people from all walks of life suddenly becomes a Choir with focus and passion. Singing together as one powerful voice united by song, uplifts our singers, inspires our audiences and enriches our community. Directed by Darren Sangwell. Richard III – Shakespeare’s classic tale @ Playhouse 21 OCT - 5 NOV. 4 Jealousy, Ambition, Manipulation, Destruction Directed by Andrew Casey. Written by William Shakespeare. Widely regarded as one of Shakespeare's greatest plays, Richard III is a powerful portrayal of one man's Machiavellian rise to power. Richard, brother to the King of England, through murder and manipulation cuts a swathe through the royal family in a bid to take the throne. A deliciously dark play that is brutal, comedic and daring. Swan Lake Saturday 22 October, 2.30 pm and 7.30 pm Audiences @ the Derwent Entertainment Centre will once again be delighted to experience Tasmania's only professional ballet company, The State Ballet of Tasmania. .Premiering at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow in 1877, Swan Lake has remained arguably the world's favourite ballet. The story of Odette, the beautiful princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer and how she is nearly saved by the love of Prince Siegfried, was not an unusual theme - bird/human metamophoses were often found in Russian folklore. The famous second act of this ballet takes us lakeside where Odette, queen of the swans, and Siegfried fall in love - only to be foiled by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart. The venue capacity of the centre has been reduced to just 1,400 seats per performance to ensure that all seats have great views. Last year's Nutcracker sold out weeks before the show! Book now.
