Algebra 2 is a sophomore/junior level course designed to advance the basic skills learned in Algebra 1. Students can expect to exercise all the concepts from Algebra ½ and 1 dealing with functions, solving equations/inequalities, quadratics functions, solve systems of equations, radical (square root) functions, rational (fractions) functions, and probability /statistics. The graphing calculator (provided for classroom use) will be used more extensively as you probe deeper into Algebra. Plan on 90 minutes of class time every day (maroon and white) with daily homework. To be enrolled in this class, you must have completed Algebra 1/2 and 1 and preferably Geometry. Materials/Textbook Information Holt Rinehart Winston ALGEBRA 2 Chapters 1-3, 5-8, 11, 13, and 14 will be generally followed. Students will be issued a textbook and will have access to the online text version. Students will provide loose leaf paper for homework assignments and a spiral bound notebook for note taking. A Texas Instrument TI-83 graphing calculator will be utilized extensively in this course. A classroom set of calculators will be available for your use during class. Additionally, there is an on-line TI-84 Silver Plus graphing calculator that can be accessed on your laptop. If you are able to purchase your own graphing calculator (preferably a TI-83 or 84), it will be to your advantage but is not a necessity.
