TOPIC C – Important People in the Civil Rights Era – Martin Luther King Jr., Thurgood Marshall,
Benjamin Mays, Maynard Jackson, Andrew Young, Hamilton Holmes, Charlayne Hunter, Herman
Talmadge and Lester Maddox.
DUE Monday, MARCH 14TH, END OF CLASS
1. Create a business card for each (can be separate cards or multiples on sheets)
- Include the person’s name and 3 important facts about each.
- Include a symbol or logo that represents their accomplishments.

flag controversy (1956 to present), founding of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC),
Sibley Commission, integration of UGA, the Albany Movement, the March on Washington, the Civil Rights
Act of 1964, and the election of Maynard Jackson. DUE Wednesday MARCH 16TH, END OF CLASS
1. Create an annotated timeline (events plus information about the events)
- Correct timeline format (even time period intervals, neatly drawn, events in the correct
locations)
- A few sentences accurately summarizing each event

2. Create an annotated map of the United States and place each of these events on the map with a
sentence summarizing the event: end of the white primary in Georgia, Brown v. Board of
Education, founding of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the founding
of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the Sibley Commission, integration of
UGA, the Albany Movement, the March on Washington, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the
Montgomery Bus Boycott.
