Summary of RSG Pros/Cons PROS CONS Collab, Get closer between Senate folks Student Panel - list of ?s Learn to lead More collab Donations Diversity in HSs - Outreach Organized/Engaging Too early Mock Lecture w/ Speck Awkward survey passing out Good ?s at lunch - Longer(?) Only FH had ?s Parent Involvement Off schedule Clarity on topics from FH UT Specific Major/Interests Groups Brief speakers so not off topic Separating Parents and Students Need family ice breakers, bonding Excited about event (?) Intro boring Unorganized groups Actual ?s What are three positives you felt about RSG? What are three negatives you felt about RSG? 1. One thing that I think we could have improved about RSG is the student panel. I think if we gave the speakers a list of questions to cover, that would have helped our attendees obtain some indepth information about college. Some people may not feel comfortable asking questions in public, so to write up a few questions and send them up to the panel -- per family head -- I thin that would have helped a lot of students. 2. Collaboration. Even though I listed collaboration as a positive, I know a few students wanted to talk to other family heads about certain things, such as college choices, application building, and so forth. For example, the Blue Team and Green Team collaborated with each other when it came to finding an eating location and during our small talk one of the girls in my family 2. The learning experience that came along with RSG wanted to talk to Jordee about a few things. I think it had to do with was also a great experience. Being under the tutelage the "major + college" connection and being from the same type of of Senate co-chairs and other Senate leaders gave background, but what Jordee said in her introduction inspired the me a sharper perspective on what it takes to lead girl in my family to ask Jordee questions that, in many ways, dealt and organize large events for the community. I took specifically to Jordee. As a result, I think mixing it up might help away a lot just by seeing and processing how things out a lot of students. were done. 3. I think one of the upsets of RSG was the non-collaborative 3. RSG definitely allowed R&R members to get nature of some high schools. One thing that I noticed was that a closer. This was a great experience to get closer to majority of the students who showed up to our event came from my fellow R&R members. It changed my perception Cedar Ridge if not Bowie. I think by physically going to high towards everyone I got to work with. Overall, there school, during the weekend or whatever, and leaving an RSG were a lot of positive things that came out of RSG! booklet at the counselor's office can get things moving. What I 1. One of the three positives of RSG was the collaborative atmosphere. Having other committee members help out RSG was a great experience. It allowed me to learn from them and, in many ways, helped me bolster the RSG experience for others. mean is, I think we could attack our tasks from all angles. I mentioned the Facebook idea of how we, as committee members, could join our assigned schools and post RSG info onto their page; as a result, methods of outreach could be worked on! :D 1) Good kids, good turnout 2) Great speakers 3) SO MANY DONATIONS 1) It was too early (should try to start a little later so students won't be too sleepy) 2) Survey's were handed out in an awkward location and an awkward time 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) ONLY FAMILY HEADS ASKED QUESTIONS AT STUDENT PANEL 1. Super organized! I had an idea of what was going on the whole time. 2. Speakers were engaging and all of them were on time and prepared. 3. Enough food and supplies for the whole event. 1. The event ran later than planned - not too bad though. 2. The building was a little hard to find. 3. Building did not have enough space for the families to stay within the building for lunch. 1. Having a family head was a really good idea! I think the high schoolers enjoyed it 2. The student panel was fun even if we asked all the questions! 3. The mock lecture was my favorite part for sure. 1, We got a little off schedule time wise. 2. We said we weren't making it UT specific but I think it ended up being quite UT specific (not that much of a bad thing though!) 3. I think we should have talked to the admissions lady before and briefed her before hand so she did not cover what Dean Iverson already said before. Great experience in helping the community students. Well organized. Good info learned. Would like better turn out, speakers a bit off topic, otherwise good event 1) Well-organized 2) Students asked good questions, especially at lunch 3) Parents were involved in the discussions 1) It was very UT-specific. 2) Some of the students were not involved and didn't show any interest. 3) No ice-breakers, no family bonding, not enough time to get to know the students 1. I could tell that getting feedback directly from university students greatly benefitted the students that attended the workshop. Hearing first-hand accounts of specific parts of college gave them more clarity on topics they were confused about. 1. During lunch, several of my kids told me that they found the introductory/informational presentations quite boring since 2. Dividing groups by my majors/interests gave most of that stuff was directed towards the parents. A lot of Dean the students in each colour a common bond and Iverson's powerpoint was about why people should apply to the University of Texas, but this workshop was supposed to be helped facilitate conversations. about applying to all universities - not just UT. 3. I thought that separating parents and students 2. I felt that some groups (including my own) were kind of was a good idea. That way, each party was able to receive more information specifically geared towards unorganised. When students were released for lunch, it got that age group. crowded and harder to keep track of all the students. 4. And another because he was just that good - I really thought that Professor Speck's lecture was extremely interesting for both the students and volunteers. The topic was interesting and relatable. 3. I felt that lunch should have been slightly longer, since it provided a good time for students to ask their family heads questions. We ran out of time for questions because lunch was over. All the kids I talked to seemed actually excited to be there and came prepared with questions One of my kids asked for my email to stay in contact with any questions The lecture was perfect for the group and was a perfect example of what to expect at UT The speakers were definitely very UT specific The speakers repeatedly went over their time limit, putting us behind Only 3 out of 13 of my kids came :( PROS CONS Collab, Get closer between Senate folks Student Panel - list of ?s Learn to lead More collab Donations Diversity in HSs - Outreach Organized/Engaging Too early Mock Lecture w/ Speck Awkward survey passing out Good ?s at lunch - Longer(?)
