This is the first day so the students will be getting use to the idea of Spanish and just getting comfortable with listening to it The students will start to learn their colors, which will be reinforced throughout the unit Lesson Materials 1. Manilla Envelopes 2. Construction paper( multiple colors) 3. Glue 4. Markers 5. Colored stars for review troughout unit 6. Passaportes (introduced in ¡Lets learn to Travel!) Procedures Pre-Activities: Description Time Frame Objective(s) Targeted 5 mins n/a ¡Lets learn to travel! Teacher will talk to students in English about the unit that we will be doing. Students will learn about dual flag rule before the class starts and the teacher speaks Spanish. They will also in English brainstorm a bit about their knowledge about Spain and Europe. This will be very relaxed getting them confortable with Señorita Emily and their new lesson. The teacher will then transition to what would be the normal welcome circle of the day. Welcome CircleTeacher will start off every class with the welcome circle. Where they remember the things that they learned, and get ready to learn more Spanish. This is where the teacher will bring out the Spanish flag, and then convert to Spanish for the rest of the day. In this lesson, the teacher will introduce to the idea of traveling and what is necessary Simon Says Teacher will use Simon Says daily to help students learn the parts of the body. The teacher will say things like, “touch your nose”, “touch your head” etc During activities: Description Lets build our own suitcase! Teacher (in Spanish now) will help the students learn the basic colors while they build their own suitcase to travel with them throughout the unit. Teacher will have students design their suitcase with basic colors. They will use one color on the one side, another color on the other (Construction paper will be cut to fit this) 5 mins TSWBAT: Point to Spain on a globe 2 mins Time Frame TSWBAT: Know their body parts Objective(s) Targeted TSWBAT: say the basic colors in Spanish 15 mins Post Activity: Time Frame Present your Suitcase- The teacher will teach the students a phrase, yo tengo, which means I have. The students will then start by saying 10 mins the two colors that they have in their suitcase to the class - TSWBAT: Recognize the Spain Flag TSWBAT: learn how to pack a suitcase, and what a suitcase is in Spanish Objectives Targeted TSWBAT: say the basic colors in Spanish Assessment (How are you assessing students throughout the lesson?) Teacher will assess the students at the end with their ability to say the colors with the suitcase. There is always a review at Morning Circle time, so they do not have to worry about not fully knowing their colors. Differentiation (How are you meeting the needs of different learners?) - Bodily-Kinesthetic: Students get to physically build their suitcase while engaging with the colors that they are using - Verbal- Linguistic: Some of the kindergarteners have the ability to read, therefore on the color starts that will always be in morning circle and used throughout the unit, it will have the name of the color on it.
