Good Practice Guide Update and Amendments GPG No 6 to Security Management Please see amendments below that have been made up to August 2010 since the original publication of the Good Practice Guide in October 2007. Please note that electronic copies on the BIFM website have been updated. Updates at January 2009 Page 3 Column 3 at the bottom: Insert, "Licensing has now been fully extended across the entire UK with Northern Ireland coming under SIA regulation in 2009." Page 7 Column 3 at the bottom: Insert the new paragraph. “The BSIA also has a list of Security Consultancy companies in their Security Consultancy Section, which can be accessed through www.bsia.co.uk.” Page 16 second column second paragraph: Change “ … the Security Industry Authority (SIA), a government agency which licenses and controls …” to “ … the Security Industry Authority (SIA) an independent body reporting to the Home Secretary, …”. Page 16 second column last line: The last bullet point should only be “Key holdings”. “Licensing of ….” should be the start of the new paragraph on the next column. Page 17 third column first bullet point: Extend the last sentence to read “… a central monitoring station or Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) with the aim of a police response.” Updates at August 2010 Page 8 third column under “2 Information and intelligence”: Paragraph 1 After “Who are the other tenants in our building” insert “Who are our neighbours on the business park/industrial site?” Page 9 second column: Paragraph 1 change “(for example from the ASC)” to “(for example from the ASC or BSIA)” Page 10 first column: After second last line “…..day-to-day security programme.” Insert new paragraph, “Consideration must also be given to the proper installation of physical security measures. The physical security system may be of the most robust type but if it is not fixed into proper surroundings with suitable fixings then it can be worthless. Page 14 third column: Under ‘Procedural suggestions’ change para 1 and run on to para 2 so that they read: “West Midlands Police produced a very useful guide to postal security. It refers to the seven S’s: Size, ….” Page 17 first column: Last bullet, extend to read:- “Security exhibition and conference venues such as IFSEC www.ifsec.co.uk”. Page 17 third column: Second line, continue to read:“eg BS7499 Static and Mobile Patrols and BS7858 security screening of individuals employed in a security environment.” Page 18 first column: After bullet point before new section on “Evaluating Tenders” Insert new para:“Generally the BSIA does not advise the use of e-auctions for tendering. Security solutions, unlike buying nuts and bolts or stationery, are subject to many variables.
