Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure all crew members are capable of performing their respective duties
within the parameters of company policies.
• Ensure that all employees wear the appropriate fall protection and personal
protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Ensure all operations are proceeding in a safe manner, and responsible for
correcting or notifying appropriate people of any unsafe acts and/or conditions
which exist
• Attend and participate in pre-tour, post tour, special operations and weekly
safety meetings.
• Assist the driller in completing blowout prevention (BOP) drills, well control
sheets, pipe tallies, equipment checks (crown saver, motor kills, etc.) as
prescribed by company policy.
•Ssupervise the drill crew, instill pride and motivate employees to work safely
and lead by example.
• Assist the driller with jacking operations, pre-loading, pre-spud meeting with
all drill crewmembers to outline the details of the well program.
• Assist the Driller in directing and supervising the drill crew depending upon
operations being carried out.
• Perform maintenance and equipment safety checks on the drilling system as
needed.
• Participate in and contribute to a pre-spud meeting with all drill crewmembers
to outline the details of the well program.
• Assist with repositioning of the derrick, substructure and related drilling
equipment over the well.
• Supervise making up the Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) and stand the drill
collars back in the derrick.
• Assist with or operate the rig’s hoisting equipment, rotary table, along with
supervising the drill crew in connecting and running various tools and
equipment necessary to construct the well bore as per client drilling program.
• Assist with nippling up of the annular preventer and diverter, Installation of
bell nipple and flow line assembly, spudding the hole and drilling out to next
casing depth and Monitoring all pertinent drilling instruments.
• Assisting cementing and other service companies with running tools and
supervise the drill crew with the procedure(s).
• Documenting on an ongoing basis of all down-hole equipment used in
constructing the well bore.
• Assists the driller with installation of the blowout preventer (BOP) on the
wellhead, connecting hydraulic control lines to the BOP functions, installation
of the bell nipple and flow line and coordinating pressure testing of BOP stack
once it is installed.
• Monitor various drilling instruments to ascertain bottom hole conditions once
the bit is on bottom and turning to the right, along with drill stem and well bore
performance.
• Positioning of BOP stack under the rig floor and operating the hoisting
equipment while running BOP stack.
• Supervise nippling up of the choke and kill line jumper hoses, CTU and other
related components of the slip joint.
• Ready to follow predetermined well control procedures and be able to
recognize the sign of a well kick or blowout before it develops into an
emergency condition.
• Assist the driller to conduct well control drills regularly to provide the drilling
team member’s practice of functioning the well control equipment to control
abnormal well bore pressures. This includes training with all drill crew to
recognize the signs of abnormal well conditions in their own working areas and
resolving abnormal well conditions as directed by the rig manager in
consultation with client representative.
• In a well control eventuality, Securing the rig floor as much as possible
without endangering any life and reporting to the Rig Manager when the
appropriate time allows detailing the conditions and procedures taken to resolve
the well control event for future investigation and preventive action.
• In the event of a fire, accident or abandonment, suspend drilling operations as
directed by the rig manager, sound alarm, secure all equipment and implement
proper emergency procedures as dictated by the situation.
• In case of rough weather, secure the rig floor, initiate shut-in procedures as
directed by the Rig Manager and provide assistance to other departments as
necessary while waiting on weather.
• Perform routine maintenance and prepare for the next phase of the drilling
program.
• Return all equipment to its proper storage location and make ready for use
again or service or replace if necessary.
• Complete drilling logs and paperwork as required.
• Responsible for the measurement of all BHA, drill pipe and tubulars that are to
be run into and out of the hole.
• Assist rig management in planning and preparing for upcoming operations in
execution of the client’s well program.
• Actively participate in the company’s behavior based safety program (DuPont’s STOP) and as a supervisor of a crew encourage participation.
• Ensure active participation of drill crew and relevant 3rd party personnel in
all Permit to Work (PTW) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) required operations
and ensure proper communication of the requirements and fulfillment of the
PTW and the JSA.
• Monitor crew personnel to ensure adherence to all HSE related policies and
procedures.
• Assist in supervising the preventative maintenance program for drilling
equipment and accessories on the rig including shale shakers, mud pumps,
elevators, slips and other related equipment.
• Assist the Driller in completing reports such as IADC daily drilling report,
pipe tally and bottom hole assembly logs, bit record, rotary drilling line cut-off
record, preventive maintenance system logs / equipment reports, accident/injury
investigation reports etc.
• Attend and participate in pre-tour, post tour, special operations and weekly
safety meetings.
• Assist in the continuous training and mentoring of drill crew personnel
through on-the-job training or other training as deemed necessary.
• Ensure care and routine maintenance of all tools and equipment provided for
company use.
• Ensure proper housekeeping in all responsible areas of the rig and compliance
to environmental procedures and regulations.
• Ensure all rig floor and adjacent related area safety and emergency systems
are maintained in good working order and inspected by relevant persons on a
timely basis.
• Assist the Driller to carry out all emergency duties as indicated in the
operations manual, emergency response plan and station bill.
• Ensure clear handovers are communicated to relief personnel within the
drilling department.
