Setting up and Capturing a Multitrack Recording
Purpose of this assignment
To demonstrate both microphone techniques, and your understanding of the signal path and routing when
using the studio. This will help underpin knowledge needed for other practical tasks.
Scenario
To create an instructional video or leaflet on how to record an acoustic singer/songwriter in the
schools studio.
Task 1
You are asked to choose and set up the appropriate equipment to record an acoustic
singer/songwriter. The artist will use both an electric acoustic guitar and their voice. You will need to
capture those sounds into studio recording equipment.
Task 2
You must collect evidence (written, video, photo and commentary) about your recording project that
demonstrates what you did and your knowledge of microphone choices, mic placement, signal path
and routing options.
You will also need to provide an audio CD or MP3 of the recording and include screen shots from
your DAW to show evidence that you captured the audio.
