The Global Petroleum Show in Calgary was a success. It
featured Ryco’s first appearance at the show joining the likes of
long-time exhibitors Eaton and Parker. Many TASco lines were
featured at the show: Hi-tech Duravent, Coxreels, Atlantex,
Safeplast, Proco, Ultra Clean and Ryco. Here are some
observations from the show:
- As it stands today, oil sands production is expected to triple
within the next 15 years and represent the lion’s share of Canada’s
crude supply. There are a fair number of continental investors
looking at Canada in light of what’s going on in the Gulf of
Mexico. There is a growing lens turning north with respect to the
oil story. The Chinese and Indians have made substantial
investments in new oil sands projects and we must be poised to
take advantage of these opportunities. In BC, the Horn River Basin
is predicted to go from 150 million cubic feet per day to 3 billion
within 5 years. Also Trican Well Service in Calgary introduced a
new style of fracking system in its Calgary facility called the Burst
Port System; they used to get 1-2 fracs per well bore now they are
achieving 15-20.
- New from Fittings Unlimited Inc. – FUI stocks hydraulic quick
couplers like the 1502 and 1505 series. These have a threaded
union locking system and precision ball-type check valves. They
are designed for extreme high pressure applications and are
typically found on portable hydraulic rams. Capable of working in

Five Minute Management Lesson
- A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the
bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he
was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on
him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he
began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually
thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon
began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing
and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat
discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly
dug him out and ate him.
- Morals of the story:
- (1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your
friend.
(3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep
your mouth shut!
